Sifu Jarance is at work again........my X5 folding mirror so far so good. Excellent job bro J! Did we ordered a spare motor or a spare wormgear?

I think better order another spare motor with the wormgear for the right side now!

Ken, I dont think you need to order any new part. Save your money lar.

You have a NEW spare wormgear and a used working motor and a spare limit switch.

I can transfer the new wormgear to the used working motor should you have any problem on right side mirror.

btw, thank for letting me "experiment" with your car..

I remember when I experiment with hakkamee car on the GM5 module,

Does the E39 auto folding mirror uses the same motor? Kayzhen PM'ed me looking for a replacement for his spoilt side mirror. He didnt say what was wrong with it though...just spoilt.

Good to know motor can be replaced. My side mirror is folding automatically when locking and unlocking now, so heavy use and will be worn soon, but I just love it!

The DIY turned out to be anti climatic. Started off well. Jarance was able to open the side mirror with no problems. Only to discover that the previous owner removed most of the original motor parts and put in a manual type side mirror mechanism. So until I get all the necessary missing parts, I'm afraid it's still no go even with the new motors. Bah! Stupid previous owner!

Anyway, many thanks to bro Jarance for taking a Saturday off to help a fellow BMW owner. I got served with coffee as well. Very hospitable of him. My gratitude to him for attempting this repair.

ya lah.. real anti climax to find the motor missing. it look like the previous owner may have swap with a non folding mirror.

i am sure some other X5 owner will contact you as it is a common problem.

haywire, the motor may be same for E39. According to the advise from factory, there are 2 type of worm gear used. Need to open the existing mirror to measure the diameter. It would be better to get some picture of the actual part required.

Okay just called Jeff (kayzhen) and the actual mirror is broken not the motor. So I'll keep this thread in mind in case my motor goes kaput soon.

PS: Jarance, it was correct diagnosis with the problem with my light checks the other day. My battery connector was indeed a bit loose. Reconnected and cleared the error, but the 'Check Brake Lights' and 'Check Park Lights' still there although my brake light seems fine. The rest has gone. Thank you Sir.

Broken mirror can be replaced with new part. With heater RM380 and without heater RM180.

Glad to be of service to you. Do a scan with the diagnostic tool to see who is the "culprit".

Where to get at that price? Ours is the elongated ones for the autofold E39 mirrors. Not the same with normal ones.
