Hi All,Just want to share with fellow bro about my experience repairing my combo crack windscreen.http://www.windscreen.com.my/images/Windshield%20breaks.jpgView attachment 26320My Bimmer car is brand-new, less than 1month old and windscreen got a minor crack after some stones fell from a lorry.I've insured my Windscreen for 5K (since I've done VKool Safety tint). Autobavaria insurance is from Allianz. After reading some good recommendation post in the forum, I decided to visit Mechanix Windscreen Services (Danny) in PJ.After inspection by Danny, I was told that the crack can be repaired for RM280. I proceeded with the repair. The repair took about an hour, the workmanship was good but I can still see some hairline crack, especially under direct sunlight.Well, I guess I can live with that instead of replacing the entire windscreen and suffer "bad luck" of water leak, etc due to improper installation.View attachment 26321View attachment 26322I paid Danny the RM280 and I then call up Allianz to check on the claims process. That's when my frustration begins. My first mistake was I did not call up the Insurance (Allianz) to check the process for Windscreen repair/replacement.I thought that I can repair it and then claim later. However, Allianz policy is that you need to repair/replace it at their Panel workshop only. When I went to submit my claims form at Allianz branch in PJ, the agent told me the same thing. She said that HQ will reject this claim. She even gave me their insurance booklet and showed me the paragraph.Anyway, I asked her to submit and I'll write an appeal letter later.

Whatever you intend to claim, must check with the insurer first. Even hospitalization insurance, same. Even panel also, best seek prior approval.

Your nightmare hasn't end.. your crack is pretty serious.. Danny's fix may not be permanent, the spider web line you see after the repair will become more obvious as time passes, it's especially bad for those cracks that has grown till the edge of the screen. Danny will still fix but the result is hopeless, it just doesn't last.

If I'm you, I would replace the windshield. Do you still keep the receipt for the VKool, with the exact specification of which film variant? Without the receipt as proof, your claim amount will be very miserable.

Since it is very likely that they may reject your claim, you may want to consider withdrawing the claim for repair and instead, ask for their panel workshop to replace the whole windscreen with the claim for your V-Cool. Just my 2 sens.. :D

I went to Glass Mechanic in PJ and they fixed my windscreen crack for free. They just copied my insurance cover and did all the paperwork by themselves. My insurance was with Etiqa

Etiqa still havent decided to have panel ruling for windscreen. But quite a number are starting to have panels so have be careful next time :)

When u did it did u not mention that u were claiming insurance? bcos if u mentioned they will ask u which insurer and if ur insurer is one of their panels you dont have to take out a cent u just have to fill in a form and they will settle the rest.
Nowadays insurers prefer you to repair than to replace as its cheaper for them. For me if Im on my original windscreen if can repair I will repair nothings beats an installed windscreen from the factory as proper pressure is applied.

If given a choice, I would have liked to be with PGI but sadly those guys went out of business! They were the nicest and most innovative bunch of people in the car insurance industry.

Recently changed my windscreen because of breakage and got it fixed on a Sunday within one hour :top:

I had my windscreen crack done at Glass Doctors (American franchise) who came to my office last year. Dont have to claim against their lifetime warranty so far, fingers crossed. I dont know if this number still works but try 012-2087979 Ms Tan or www.glassdoct.com

Don't go to glass doctors. Horrible after sales support. Had my wife's Punto windshield line crack repaired by them. Claimed lifetime warranty. When the cracks grew larger, called them to look into it. Met him at the car park of carrefour Subang. He says he didn't have the right tools to micro drill the affected area. Promised to call me again when his tools are here. That was the last I met him. Never called back. And I didn't have any further confidence in his skills anymore hence decided to replace the entire windscreen

Don't ever use them. Hopeless

I remember using glass doctors earlier this year. I used glass mechanic in ss2 in 2010 for my last car and that crack continued growing. Apparently the glass doctors local franchise was taken over and has new people. I was impressed with their service and my repaired long crack is still going strong.

Yup Chin, agree with you. The new glass doctors owners were really helpful and honest. Before this, my experience with the ss2 shop glass mechanic was a bad one. The lady who did my repair shouldnt be doing repairs lah to be honest.
