Where is the VIN on e39?

HI guys, is VIN the engine/chassis number? Am trying to track my cars in realoem but seems invalid when i put in the number from car gerund. Pointers appreciated. Thank you. Regards

the VIN is located at the :
1. LH front strut tower (or RH...can't remember)
2. lower left windshield

Mine's imported new from Germany by Cartrade in '97. And yes my VIN shows up on RealOem.

Newly imported from Germany = CBU, so sure no problem in realOEM.

Found mine appear in RealOEM. Manufactured in July 1996
