How do you know when you need to change your wheel bearing? One day I was driving with my friend (E36 coupe) and when he was tailing me from the back, he saw that my left rear wheel was ..... how to describe this ... wobbling a little bit (not alot) but only noticable if you look at it properly. Does this mean my wheel bearing needs changing? Thanks

wobbling could be due to rims needing balancing,or could be tht ur tyres r "bloated" or rim could be bengkok.
if wheelbearing,u can hear a whirring noise...kinda like the sound of a police jeep.....
best way to tell if ur wheelbearings need changing is to jack it up,spin the wheel with ur hands and if there is a soft/loud grinding noice, chances r its ur w/bearings mate.
wobbling could also be due to the tie rod being worn out(if car is jacked, lock steering, thn push wheel from left to right.if there is a light clunk or free play, its ko.)
rgds,

do the same thing but place your finger on the springs and you can feel whether the bearings are gone - it feels bumpy.
If the bearings are OK, you will not feel any vibration on the springs.

Thanks guys. I'll try the balancing and check my tyres. No vibration on the spring, no whirring noise
