i read the spec and manual of z (2003-2006) and it state the fuel tank capacity is approx 55L.however, i am only able to pump in up to 40-45L most of the time when the fuel indicator lights up...this only brings me to about 350km on average. (Ron95)What's your experience?

..yeah..I have complained many times about Z fuel tank and fuel tank gauge on dashboard..on Z4M, situation is a bit better than my previous Z, and feel more convincing when you have to hit road...

The Z4 has a tiny fuel tank. Yes the total capacity is 55l. When fuel waring lights will come on there is still more than 60km to go which is approximately 5l of usable fuel left. This I tested on mine.

I get a range of approx 400-450km with hard driving on a tankful of gas on highways. In town not less than 350km.

There have been complaints of the low fuel warning coming on too early. My suggestion is that you try driving as far as you dare or till the tank runs dry. Only then you'll know how much usable fuel is left. Then you can be sure and comfortable.

Excerpt from the manual
"Tank capacity: approx. 14.5 gallons/ 55 liters, of which approx. 2.1 gallons/ 8 liters are reserve capacity. When indicator lamp begins to stay on continuously, there are still approx. 2.1 gallons / 8 liters of fuel in the fuel tank.
It is important that you refuel when the cruising range falls below approx. 30 miles/50 km. Otherwise, the engine cannot be guaranteed to operate properly and damage may result.
Fill the fuel tank before it is completely empty. Driving to the last drop of fuel can prevent the engine from operating properly and result in damage."

I"ve tried driving with the low fuel warning lights on until the range to go shows 85km then refuel, only managed 47liters.
That is after the second click of the pump even though the manual says its full after the first click.

Read somewhere someone tried until the range to go shows dashes and he still managed to squeezed a few more miles out of it. BMW recommended RON 98 for best performance and better mileage. Maybe someone out there can verify that.
