Dear All,I'm so good with this topic most my topics & probs is with this. As in my earlier threads I'd water situations. Most recent, I got a new rad+exp tank+cap. That was exactly a month ago.Did at Heritage, they change, bleed & lastly pressure test the rad. Looks ok. Now, 2 days ago a warning came; "Coolant Level". Wow! Can't be mah  I reckon could be a sensor error so I ignore until today out of curiosity.. Woolahh!! Exp tank empty. Goooddd....top up with 1.5l. Drove for 30 mins, before I turn off engine...Wooolllaa!! Warning came again...How?? I getting real sick of this on going s*it... it's not an ULTIMATE driving machine at all...tot of selling it off...

Take it back to Heritage and ask them to fix it. If the problem is with the cooling system then they should do it FOC! unless they find something else is wrong with your car. Then come back to the board.

If your radiator is new , I believe you have a leaking hose . When was the
last time the hose was changed ?

tong, I am sure you have all your hoses changed, I mean ALL? What about the hoses that go into your heater system? Perhaps the heater matrix is leaking? I had the heater in my SLOTH disabled because it was leaking. That is one less worry for me now. If you have your heater disabled, hmmmm, better do a pressure test. Hope you do not have to end up like me.... I had to skim the head and did a top-end overhaul at the same time. Now no problems.

Oh forgot, did you change your radiator cap too? When I was using my old cap, I was loosing water like 5 marks a week. After changing, minimal loss, around 1 mark a month.

1. Hoses still ok (as claimed by mech)
2. Cap is new (changed together with rad)
3. Pressure test done with heater long time disabled
4. Temp gauge is normal though no water in exp tank for 2 days
5. Water pump? Err...what it go to do with water loss? No idea on this whether is new or old.

Damn sian going to workshop every month oredi

oh my.. sorry to hear that tong tong....

After two cylinder head cracks, I know how frustrating it feels to have this problem.

Do go through what Alb and Flash mentioned.

- Also check your thermostat
- Check during hot/cold
- go under the car because sometimes the leak is not visible from above (temp coolant tank sensor leak)
- gaskets (cylinder/engine)
- pipes
- hoses (are they still knew?? It could be that they are old and cracking. The heat just disintegrates them and you may need to replace the hoses and flush your cooling system)
- if you do change your water pump, change to the metal impeller version

try other workshop, tongsatriani!
if the same workshop cannot solve the problem, try another, maybe thru some recommendations by clubmembers!
some workshop are good in certain things when come to repairing!
just maybe they are not that good when come to this problems...

leaks.....

Long Live .....................T#*&ta.

From my own experience, I have do top overhaul. Then change new radiator plus the hoses. But still losing water. Need to top up water every morning. last I notice that the radiator neck area was always damp. After changing to new hose clip, no more dampness and no more losing water. Cost me 4 ringgit for the hose clip. Maybe the hose clip could no longer grip properly after serving for years. Maybe worthwhile for you to check your hoseclips. Good luck.

There are many parts that may coz this problem so care full looking at the clip, hose, pump is a must, when the engine is hot and cold. My experience one of the hose worn off in one end and the water sipping out.The mech didnt notice, I notice when I chk again at home.
Chk all the part an see if there any water mark wet or dry and chk again. Hose joint, clip and water pump the normal culprit.

Okie, here's an update.

The warning that came off after I'd filled up & drove for 30 mins is a false alarm. Been monitoring ever since, seems to be ok as of now. No drop in water level or what-so-ever.

Did check on coolant sensor last month, mech says still working well.

I'll see how thing goes later...

hi, can anyone explain this strange phenomenon? my brother's 5-series has this 'check coolant' warning, but only when the engine is hot. the level in the expansion tank actually goes down when the engine is hot.

i told him it should be the other way around, rite? when the engine is cold, the expansion tank fills up again (no coolant seems to be lost). he's tried bleeding the radiator.

anyone knows what's causing this?

thanks

Seems not me only having this. As of now, my water level is fine (hopefully). But it's an on-going sympton since 6-7 mths ago.

To be honest, I have not gone for a through check on major cooling parts:
1. Water pump
2. Hoses

The above are the only 2 not done on my ride. My rad changed, bleeding done 2-3 times. Coolant just changed.

If it really concerns you (afraid sudden overheat while on roads), go for a total cooling system check. Just like my other sifus said

Sob! My udm is losing coolant too but visual check shows no obvious leak. 'Check coolant level' has come on twice over the week and topped up with water. Must make beeline to mechanic tomorrow, I suppose :beaten:
