Hey Bro, the mechanic checked and said its the steering rack issue, need to open and see if can be repaired or replaced, its a one day job. Where is this adjustment thingy actually

Hi Bro Alantiong, do you have a pic of it, how it looks like ? I saw my steering column before but couldn't find anything that can be adjusted. Appreciate it

Replaced the steering rack, the u joint upper and lower but issue still persist, next step gonna check the tires, this issue has been driving me nuts and slowly making a hole in my pocket.

bro did you change this......the rubber coupling of the bottom shaft in the pic.....like alan mentioned?located in steering column just after the steering wheel.
this is what we pay the w/shops for ie to do proper t/shooting and pin point the cause....not elimination by chasing the most expensive part first!

Bro moots & Alantiong, I changed both the parts in the pic last Sunday no go, issue still persist. I consulted 3 mechanic and all point to steering rack. could it be steering pump weak, cause sometimes the steering becomes hard when turning. I'm brain dead :dontknow: next i'm gonna loan 2 front rims from a tire shop to see if its the tires which is causing the issue.

Hmmm....this is a toughie....have you tried swapping the front and rear tires?(which costs nothing)

I always troubleshoot problems from the least expensive to the most.I feel your heartache when the steering rack was replaced but defect persists.....I hate it when this happens....keep us updated bro....

I cant swap my rear tyres go front, cause its staggered setup, i think i found the problem, suspect the power steering pump, cause today while i was taking a turn the steering became hard. Correct me if i'm wrong.

hmmm....at home, with engine off does yr steering wheel exhibit the same amount of steering wheel play like whilst you are driving?
if no, then the pump could possibly be at fault.my reasoning is perhaps due to the rack not being powered when you are driving, then you may be requiring extra input to the steering wheel.....?
i have rebuilt the power steering pump on my e34 by changing the seals.it comes in a kit.donno whether the e39 has a kit for this.

Update to my issue, changed the steering coupling but issue still persist

how much is your freeplay?? at stand still, off your engine.. it should be more than 2cm each way... try to isolate the issue. start with steering. if its not.. then move on to suspension.

i believe you have fix the bushes??. what rear crossmember bushes? not many people look at and it is very very crucial.
