Hi All,Question, I have the Vin number to my hopefully future ride but when I check it online it shows everything as correct except that the engine capacity was recorded as 316 rather than 318. Anyone knows what could be the reason? Anything that I should be worried about? The car grant states everything to be correct as claimed. BTW my VIN is AF20608 and I was checking from here:http://www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do

Kastam Car

I think I've found the answer. The car apparently turns out to be a Kastam car. Not too sure whether it was some AP issue or it was 'smuggled' car....

I am in a fix now. The car condition is not bad..and it has already changed 2 hands in Malaysia since it was registered in 2005. The first person bought it off kastam. I have a feeling it was really originally a 1.6 car converted to 1.8.

Question is then, anyone has any advice? Is it worth taking a car like that? I am not so worried about re-sale and all. Just new to this whole car from Kastam kinda thing...anyone can help?

I cant get tru website for VIN.. if anybody can help, i wish to check on this seven digit number.. thks GH78073

Your VIN says this: 10/1999 E39 523i Sedan M52 Europe Right hand drive Automatic

Just click the website and enter the Vin number under Serial Number column..hope this helps.

ermm... what i have here difers..

From AP shows;

Imported from Japan
Year 2000
Model 525i

Frm Reg Card

Model 525i (A) GF-DM25

The car itself

Original M Sport

.. and i'm thinking of getting this one..

ha ha...neva trust the AP...its a piece of rubish..anything can be put on it...can even call your car a bently...always go with the VIN check as the final...walk away from the car if it differs from the VIN check

Yup, 'learned' it the hard way...

Rafa, I think when they mentioned Europe it basically means non US market.

em, trying to understand.. hope nothin wrong with the car.. still trying to source the car, if i can get the loan...

Hello Forumers,

Sorry for asking a really" freshie"/ newbie question.

Where is the VIN located ????

Also can the VIN be tempered ?? How does one know that it is not fake ?

Cheers

Evra, Vin number is the last 7 characters in your car grant under chasis number.
