Hi everyone here, I'm driving a 523i. Yes, it's by Auto Bavaria, local ride. It's under-power, and I would like to know, may i upgrade the performance? How much it would cost me? ;(

It would be glad if someone here upgraded their ride (523i) and solved the issue of under-power :)

Insert racechip or vector or DTUK. These are piggy back systems to your original settings to configure it.

BMW power performance kit is also another option.

For better throttle response. .. get pedal box. Your car will feel more responsive.

There are plenty of options to upgrade your otherwise underpower 523.. Initially I wanted to suggest BMS Powerbox for N52 engine but apparently it doesn't work for F10(only for E60)... If you have the money just do it all of else, do it stage by stage like below:

1) change the exhaust to quad type.. Remus will be a good option due to its price compared to other brands. Light weight and back pressure reduction, you will feel the car pickup faster. If you want more, change the exhaust manifold as well. Advantage? Addictive bassy exhaust sound everytime you floor the accelerator. Oh yes.. You might have to change the rear diffuser (or mod) to fit the quad exhaust.
2) aFe or BMS cold air intake to replace stock air intake. Potentially add few hp to your car but can be loud at the engine bay everytime you press the pedal.
3) once everything done, go for ECU tuning finally and remap your engine to suit all settings. They provide dyno afterwards to check the increase of HP.

All the above can be done at any BMW specialist mod shop but if your car is still under warranty and you don't want to risk it, wait until it's over and only then you do.

Chris....what is your definition of underpowered? Is it during take off from the traffic lights or high speed push?

Also...what size rims are you on?

Thule definition of Under-power :)
When you bought your car expecting it to behave the way you want it to be when tekan minyak but realized in the end that it didn't

Definition of under-power.. kenot keep up with the cruiser lead car during official drive..

Silver bullet. ...against your GTR....definately a 523i is underpowered. Heck.... even a 528i cannot keep up.

Bro YF, honestly even my gojira can't keep up with a myvi when they start zig sagging n tailgating...I just let them pass...sometimes it takes bigger balls to flick the signal lights and move to the left lane :)

No point racing with those Myvi-lution especially during heavy traffic. It's the only time they are able to tailgate (cucuk) or overtake us. On highway and let's see who's the boss. Gojira isn't built to take on myvi.. It's a Ferrari chaser and when I see one on the road, I'll let them pass.
I bought Porsche to satisfy my sport car dream and not to race.. Occasionally I'd speed on Penchala Link, MEX and DUKE Highway but that was only during off peak hours

izzit really under power?
i think ok, if u want faster jus get the turbo car~
i run at highway max speed can until 23x km/h
i think should be enough.......

Bro Thule, you should change your signature to "Porsche, my dream sports car finally! I got what I gave" :D

Anyway back to topic, for an N/A car significant power can mostly be gained from the following upgrades (will probably void warranty if any):

1) Put in a supercharger kit :D
2) Stroker kit, increase the engine cc (not sure already available for F10)
2) Racechip/Tune
3) Upgrade intake manifold from a bigger cc car
4) Full exhaust system, extractor etc. if backbox mods i.e quads only are not enough, this is mostly for sound but some even experienced power loss if not done properly
5) Cold air intake system with more free-flowing filters i.e K&N, GruppeM, BMC, aFe etc

Ohh those were the days....

Bro silverbullet...
Stroker kit, supercharger are too extreme already...
I think generally exhaust manifold + quad exhaust.. Then cold air intake (K&N, aFe, BMC)... Followed by ECU re-map should see the power increase.
RaceChip/Tune is only available for turbo charged engine so 523 with 2.5 NA engine can't work.

My friend has already tuned his Gojira to second stage (not sure about hp increase though).. But not the ultimate 1000hp... And he can easily tailgate/overtake a Lambo or Ferrari anytime

Well..he did say the 523i is under power so the most significant way to increase power is thru FI or stroke it...the rest is fine but given the amount of money spent is not worth the power gained (max ~50-60hp) and mostly butt feels...yeah what I meant by racechip/tune is actually remap...damn forgot the term too long since I left the N/A scene...also must not forget to upgrade the handling and braking departments...Power is Nothing Without Control

My Datsun with intakes upgrade, catless exhaust system, Y-pipe and Ecutek stage 2 tune only yields around 650hp-700hp..depends on which Ferrari or Lambo but the result is very surprising and satisfying on my end :)

Anyways the day will soon be over with the release of Ferrari GTB, Hybrid Turbocharged Acura NSX and 400hp turbocharged AWD hot hatches...oh well enjoy while we still can :)

Yes.. I noticed that he said "underpower" but I don't think that he would want to go for broke in order to gain max ponies power. To me, Stroker kit or FI route are too extreme and will only go for it as last resort. And yes.. When you go for the extreme, it's best to upgrade safety features as well. I haven't heard anyone who opt for Stroker kit but there's option for Rotrex supercharger that add 80hp to stock power. Cost-wise it won't be cheap.

As for you bro.. My friend who is driving your so-called "Datsun" told me that once you start to go for power upgrades, you won't stop.. I think it's the thrill that keeps him going for more and more. Yes.. The power increase is addictive.

"Nothing beats displacement"... I guess this mantra cannot be used in this new era where engine downsizing and turbocharged are used to comply with the strict emission law. Porsche has already gone turbocharge with its Macan and soon face lifted Boxster and Cayman. I guess that Cayenne, Panamera or even 911 will not escape this fate in the near future too. Like you said, Ferrari has already started with California and soon 488 GTB.. But it's high displacement engine with turbocharge tech.

Right now I'm enjoying the thrill every time I step on the accelerator while driving my 997. For now the power is still enough for me.. Few years down the road and I will add the plenum and throttle body + air intake and remap the ECU to gain more than 50-60 hp.. With noticeable increase in power during low to medium rev. And the cost? RM15-20k... Sigh!
