Just wondering if anyone here has encountered this problem before.

I am driving an E90, using a USB flash drive to play back my fav songs. Been working OK for the past 2 years but a few days ago, it seems to have trouble reading the flash drive after it plays for a while and the player automatically switches to the radio.

You might think it is a faulty flash drive, I changed 2 other flash drives, same problem. It will play for a short while and then it stops, switches over to radio because it cannot seem to detect/read the flash drive.

Appreciate it if anyone here can feedback on this issue.

Thanks!

Sometimes the connectors of the thumb drive or USB port can get oxidized and this may affect the connection quality. Try plug in and unplug the thumb drive a few times to remove the corrosion. Hopefully this will work.

Never encountered that on my '10 320d. Using a 16GB. Year and model of your ride? Perhaps try different capacity (smaller?) and different make of USB drive?

Experience similar issue. I was using a 8 GB flash drive for about 4 yrs. Then changed recently to a higher capacity flash drive, 32 GB. It stops reading after playing for about 20 to 30 mins. Unplug and replug, plays again for sometime and then stops reading. I suspect probably due to the heat it generates at the port, I decided to use a usb lead. Whalla, now it does not stop reading and the problem stopped. Try this.
