Took out my thermostat housing and look what I found? haha

Anyway, did some DIY this past weekend coz the car was overheating in stop-go traffic but would run real COLD (like in the blue) when going on the highway even though it was 35C outside.So... took out the thermostat housing (which is corroded and brittle anyway) and here are some pictures:

Thermostat housing (Whats left of it)and check out the thermostat! I was expecting to see "Made in WEST Germany" as it looks like it was never changed since 1980...

Note the "see thru area" at the top of the stat... the thermostat was stuck partially open! It would not close fully/wont open either LOL. No wonder it was running hot in traffic... Rm35 solution...Syed

the housing can be ordered via inner power on the last time i bought in 2007. it cost RM200.00 that time, now i dun know.. thermostat is cheap.

Thanks. Bavarian Auto Parts has them, Rm200 housing, Rm34 Thermostat. Just that I dont have time off of work to "lari" and buy them. Will do so this weekend and get the car running :rock:

I am using a 71degrees celcius rating thermostat for tropical weather. Quick warmup and no overheating in traffic. I think
yours is the same size thermostat with my E21.

Out of experience, i think i would have gone for original thermostat. You can see that the old one is from the original engine, in other words good quality. When my 730i was overheating, first thing that was changed was thermostat. As car shortly after continued to overheat, we started to look for other faulty items. Thousands of RM later, everything was changed, including a new head. Finally they realized that the UNORIGINAL thermostat that they changed, in the first place was faulty. Lot´s of wasted money just because the garage wanted to save me a buck.

The only "non-made in germany" item is the Toyota Coolant That is THE best coolant for our 35C weather hands down. Its been used from Mercs to Ferraris.

Beautiful... put it into the M30 and go for a good sunday run.. Put a bit of grease on the bleed screw. Had to change a few of these due rust.
