Hello dear all BMW fans,I would like to get some opinions from you guys on getting a classic E12 528i year 1981 and restore it up and make it as my daily drive. Is it worth for RM3000 for this classic that got tonnes of things needed to get fix and make in back in good running condition? Below is the brief description of the E12:1) Not original dashboard, fitted with E30 dashboard with crack everywhere.2) Not the original M30B28 engine anymore, fitted with E30 M20B20 engine auto, a little problem with the fuel pump only.3) Minor rush at the firewall, spare type compartment, wheel arches and under carriage.4) Need to do up the suspensions and all the bushing as the ride is hard and not confortable, with many freeplay and metal knocking/scratching sounds (Is it hard to get a new one since only E24 or E3 sharing the same suspension system with E12, not E28 if I'm right).5) The seats' fabric torn here and there.6) Missing driver side marker (turn signal) but got an extra rear passenger side light cluster cover.7) Seller having the car registration card from the owner but not yet transfer to his name (a risk if got stuck during the name transfer).Please share your opinion (will you get it for RM3k if you were me?) on getting this classic E12 and advice on the parts availability. Thanks.

Have you really asked yourself why u r doing it? If I were to consider a classic restoration, the car must meet my expectations below;

Car must be nice to drive...gud handling, enuff power, nice sound etc2
Must be beautiful to look at, and majority others feel the same too
Desirable model...rare, ori, special edition etc
Good body and ori parts can be easily sourced

I want a car that can hold it's value or easy to sell after u finish playing with it :love:

U r very brave to make this a daily runner

This 2 will never come together.
You want rare and ori part can be sourced easily...:stupid:

Undenyable Fabian, I'm sure there is more rust after it is fully stripped.

Rare model normally will not be ori anymore, if ori also the condition must be really bad. Thus they will never come together like Gerald mention. I know it will be a really pain to do it up and take a few years maybe until it will fully restore and become a daily ride.

How much will it worth if done it up, let say with a M30 3.5 and make it M535i version with ori front apron and rear spoiler? Will it comparable to a good condition E24 or even a 2002? Anyone seens a E3 3.0si in Malaysia?

Well, if money is less of a problem and you know where to get, ori parts are easily sourced.....rAre here doesn't mean u can't find the parts u need somewhere else

For me the E12 looks like it needs plenty of jobs and tonnes of patience...not forgetting finding the right mechanic and body panel experts to know what are the missing parts + how to go about looking for one + their patience in progressively rebuilding your car...

Most of the car parts are not original...You must allocate time to read and equipe yourself as to ensure you are not taken on a ride...

Good luck on the above bro should you are proceeding with the acquisition.

Haha, this is also under my consideration, looking at those part fully loaded, just the engine a little economy type and less power, town drive would be great, worth it I think.
