Aiyah this Samy... now he suggests helicopters to airlift car wrecks after accidents... so, who's gonna pay for that, don't think airlift will be cheap by any means... read on... http://www.bernama.com/bernama/state_news/news.php?id=303935&cat=nt December 22, 2007 18:25 PM Use Copters To Airlift Accident Vehicles On Penang Bridge - Samy VelluPENANG, Dec 22 (bernama) -- Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu today ordered the Malaysian Highway Authority and Penang Bridge Sdn Bhd to provide helicopter services to airlift vehicles involved in accidents on Penang Bridge to prevent traffic congestion. He said helicopter services were needed to facilitate speedy dispersal of traffic in the wake of an accident."When a car is involved in an accident on the bridge, a helicopter can be used to airlift and move it to another place. So other vehicles can continue with the journey," said Samy Vellu, who is also MIC president, to reporters after meeting Penang MIC division and branch leaders. The minister was responding to reporters' queries on the massive jam on Penang Bridge after a string of minor accidents at noon today. -- BERNAMA

Oh sure.., why not?! We are going towards 2020 maa.., so all these "high-tech" things have to come in slowly..., dun worry about the airlift cost lah..., Malaysian Highway Authority; Penang Bridge Sdn Bhd or your car insurance company will take care of it...hehe..

chiao...

it's not feasible...the bridge is long, wind conditions,

and

worst........... traffic will come to a standstill ... all kepoh to look..

I think it's more like... "all the time, he talks nonsense"

Iyoyo Samy......., maybe can pinjam your heli? Talking thru his exhaust pipe!:stupid:

In an normal car accident, onlooker would slow down to see the number of the cars involved for "4D". Traffic jam would occurred on both side of the road.

Just imagine how big the traffic jam would be if a helicopter come to the rescue.

Some area is very dangerous to airlift a car due to the suspension cables and wind condition.

Most probably, the gomen will forked out another RM400 million to hire the helicopter for their service.

On Penang Bridge, they have already put up the shield so that traffic from one direction cannot see the traffic on the opposite direction, it also reduced the crosswind experienced by bikers... But the shield is not there at the mid-span.

With all these obstacles, don't think it's feasible for airlift, except for emergency medical cases (critical injuries)...

The big question here is, which "friend" will get the contract to lease the helicopter to them... :39:

as normmal, this is going to end-up as 'comdening the government thread' ---
hoii .... this is a car club forum la ...... what is the moderator is doing here .... !!!!

Medical airlift was proposed already but Malaysian government turned it down by refusing to give priority airspace travel for medical chopper.. the real silly bit was the malaysian Govt didn't even have to pay for it.. it was sponsoured by a few large commercial companies including Microsoft to the tune of about RM300 million per year including buying the aircraft.

The idea has since been abandoned by the groups who tried to organise it.

Alright, not really to hentam the gov, but if medical airlift cannot be allowed, what more about airlift of car wrecks...

There was no catch, original organisers were international red cross, similar to the westpac bank rescue choppers in Australia.

Silly tree huggers.... they thought they could do some good...

P.S I know about it because I knew 1 of the guys who was involved with the helicopter they were going to use.

It came from the sky...

Airlifting of accident wrecks is a precise process. Regardless of how mangled an accident car is, it must be PROPERLY SECURED before lifting.

This will take time. Meanwhile people will gawk at the scene, traffic will build up, highway authorities will feel the pressure, someone will get yelled at over the phone and finally the airlifters will be told to hurry up.

If they buckle and rush the job, then we'll have cars falling from the sky, or helicopters and cars falling from the sky, onto the bridge or into the sea.

Not a good idea.

I think the original idea is to lift the wreck and throw it into the sea... but then somebody thought there could be a way to make money lah.

Why not have a crane ship to do the lifting job instead?

Make money? Hmmm, I think it will be known as Semi Value Choppers Bhd, with it's tagline of "We Will Chop You"... :D ...cabut...

Lagi susah la bro. Crane arm will have to be damn long especially in low tide.
