Suspect gasket leak

Hi guys, I am asking this on behalf of my friend who owns a 1991 e34 BMW 520i. He told me he has to top up almost 500 mL of water every week so its really bothering him.I own the newer e39 and I told him its not normal to have to top up that frequent.I am suspecting a leak somewhere. No sign of water puddle on the floor according to him.Can anyone recommend a place that has the proper tools to check for gasket leak and also to run a compression test. Mechanics quoted him top overhaul close to RM7k so he is asking for 2nd opinionPreferable area is selangor

Try n chck if the cyclinder block has any crack..i just kena to my e36 325i..always topup water..end of the day find out the crack in the cyclinder is the culprit. Cost cyclider head rm1600..+- total cost rm2800.
