and btw, since yours is a 323, there's enuf torque and you would probably not feel the difference.

u touched upon performance ...straight-line speed or also cornering? For me, corners thrills me more and it's performance also ma... :D
Or course it's the corners. Bought the 3 series bcos of that. Can't find any other car that handles corners as well. Genting is the place that i can overtake almost any car with my baby.

ylkhor....excuse me..what u waiting for bro...18's laa...tomorrow go n get :D

:yahoo:

chubby, i got a habit of changing rims every year, high cost le ...this time i'm determined to attend more TT and see more rims on E46. Once fall in love with a particular design, then will go racun myself again :D

why not get both 17s and 18s of the same design? Since replicas are so cheap nowadays, you can mix and match..

Btw, I'm running 225x45x17. Will there be a difference in diameter with 225x40x18? I'm thinking using 17in for front and 18in for the rear.. somehow the rear looks smaller with both 17s on.

ylkhor....okay fair enough....have a look around..see what u like..once u've seen it...get it :D u wont regret it if u really want it :) get what u want and NOT what other people think u should get bro :D

:yahoo:

danpromote...i aint no expert on this..but i dont think its advisable to use multiple size of rims on one particular car...if u want u might as well get staggered rims bro rather than using 17' in front n 18's for the rear..well at least thats what i think :)

:)

why is that? I suspect that there will be a slight weight increase due to the larger rims but since the width is the same... what dangers does it provide?

danpromote...good question...let me dig up on this matter and will let u know..i'm curious as well :D
Not many goes for the approach that ur goin for bro :D

:yahoo:

Lukesoon,

1) 18inches will reduce the acceleration - especially the standing start to about 60 kmh....after that, minimal difference......
2) cost wise - 18 inches has reduced in prices as more cars are now using it - it now comparable to 17 inches.... about 50 to 200 per tire difference.
3) ride comfort - quite a big diff as 18's are alot harder but the increased grip and sharper turn in is a plus........

My car came with 18 but overall, think that 17 is the best all round balance......

17" or 18" not much different ler. If your car 1.8 4pot u put 16" or even 14" pun your car still can not go fast. So what performance reduce we want to talk about?

Cheers.

Got a lot of difference leh... last time mine stock only 14/15in if not mistaken... after changing to 17in I immediately felt the power loss in acceleration.. just like previously it was on slippers and now put on army boots like that :D

How bout:

Go with 17s to have less rolling resistance ( loss of acc minimised) and tires cost a lot less and mantain some semblance of comfort.

Upgrade your ARBs to extract better cornering performance.

I agree to the tires part... 18 is only 1 inch bigger but costs double the price of 17ins. The only sad thing is when your 17in is parked next to 18in.. it looks so puny.

Hi bro DanPromote
That's a marked difference!
I place a lot of importance in the vroom vroom feel, so u telling me by upgrading to 17s or 18s (from my stock 15s), i'll lose that??? :dunno:

Bro DanPromote,

1.8 or 2.0 right? With all that bodykit, no wonder you are concerned abt performance impact of the rim size. (I thot the idea was to go slowly so that people can admire how nice the car looks w all those trimmings?)

If performance was that critical, perhaps its time to consider upgrading to a bigger engine, or supercharging the current one.

Or drop some of the bodykits...

:D

Do you recall how fast those go-karts felt? Power/weight ratio.

Yes, bigger rims will definitely affect performance irrespective of whether you feel it or not. Mainly due to higher rolling resistance and increased unsprung weight. Of course it's felt more on a puny 4 pot engine, thats called power to weight ratio!!

Go for a good set of rims, BBS is light enough and the performance wont be sacrifice as much, yeah more fun at the corners! :D

I'm getting the M-Tech2 b/kits, but won't lower. Just wondering if it will look odd. Any sifus have pics to share? Want to see how an un-lowered UDM looks after adding b/kits and 17" rims. :beaten:
