Steptronic transmission

Hi, was wondering whether anyone knows the correct way to use the Steptronic on our E90's? Heard that there are basically 3 settings i.e. Auto, Sports (push it to the left & leave it there) and 'manual' (when you push it forward & back). Auto is pretty basic, but i realize that when i try to use the sports mode the drive doesn't feel smooth i.e. revs tend to go up & down like a see-saw. Chris1

Bro, the DS mode will always keep your RPM above 2500RPM and can hold the gear until redline (if you floor the accelerator) and switch to a higher gear. I usually use this for spirited drives. Experiment and you will find when you will want to use it. It does give pleasure though. :rock:

Sports mode is for when your right foot is feeling itchy and you want a more responsive drive. It's not meant to be smooth like Auto.

I find that it's also good for coasting down long downhill stretches as it can hold the car in lower gear without having to go into manual.
