Sifus,Thinking about changing the brake hoses to steel-braided ones. Suppose to give more responsive braking. Checked with 911 Zentrum which sells the Pro RS brand. A set for E46 costs RM290 with installation cost of RM100 (includes brake fluid).Has anyone tried these ? Is it worth the molars or is it just hype?

U may also chk dis out on other threads, dude. Our forumer "Jipster" has made quite a few posts on this matter. PM him personally for further details. :D

dont get the pro-rs. they're cheap, no doubt, and work well when new. but they wear out VERY fast. i had a set for only one yr when my brakes started to feel very spongy and the pedal travelled further than usual before it bit.

i had recently changed new pads, fluid and bled the system so i knew those couldnt be the culprit. so i replaced the pro-rs hoses with sparco steel braided hoses and, voila, problem gone!

my old pro-rs hoses still looked like new. no leaks, no fraying, nothing.

but seriously, spend a bit more and get a set of goodridges, or get the sparcos from SG (not sure if they make 'em for ur car).

Well generally stainless steel lines dont go bad...however you 'should' bleed/flush your brake fluid every year, and if u track the car then sooner.
Maybe the fluids could be the reason the pedal feel was spongy?

When might gets spongy or goes down too much, i'll bleed the brakes and all is fine. I'm still on the stock rubber lines.

But if you do have the extra $$$$...then go for the good ones - goodridge or sparco. Try to get the lines that are coated on the outside. The old generation stainless lines, if over time it rubs against some part of the car or anything, it will slowly wear off. The newer ones come with an outer layer that protects the lines from this.

Thanks for the advise guys. Where can I get the Goodridge or Sparco ones & how much do they cost?

Redd Where in SG can I get it from?? Any address? Is any available for E30?

Thanks

Yup pro-rs from Zentrum are cheap and cheerful (RM280 or thereabouts per set for E30) but cannot comment on long term longevity.... TBA i guess

Redd, yeah like franklin said...maybe sponginess due to fluid....some brake fluids absorb moisture more than others... 'could eb worng tho..

The Goodridge lines are about twice the price of the Pro RS....

But I had a cheap solution, a hai-tech solution called zip-ties... so far so good...

Fabian, best bang for your buck your zip tie option...............i like, cheep cheep good good.................

I have driven a few E30 318i and found that my brakes gave the fastest response... u can have a drive to verify during the next TT.... ;)
no spongy feel even on sepang track.... and bear in mind I'm on stock brakes.. but then not that stock since I'm using vented front disc (from 325i) and rear disc (from 325i as well). I did feel the difference after the zip-tie cheep mod, i was aledi on the vented disc and rear disc before the zip tie experiment.

Could it be that there were air bubbles in the brake circuit? I believe that it is one several possible reasons for brake sponginess.

Pro-RS now wraps the terminals and the centre of the brake hose with heat shrink wrap. Supposed to stop dirt from getting in the joint between the hose and the heads. Centre shrink wrap to protect the braid from abrasion.
