Speedo Meter on and off

Speedo meter of my E36 328I goes on and off. Notice it goes off when engine heats up ! Clean sensor contact ( at the rear axil ) also the connector at the meter. Problem still there. Anywhere I have not checked /missed out ? ( before looking at replacing the sensor or meter ) .

For the meter, you can do a diagnostic check where you can make all the needles goes from minimum to maximum. if you see that the meter goes a bit unsmooth, then it is most probably the meter guage.

Speed is only a magnetic pickup similar to your crank shaft sensor.
