I do read about it. Normally heard is ignition coil issue, trist arm and automatic gearbox issue. Is only that? How about the rust issue and other electronic thing?
I do only know this car had been voted for top reliable luxury car, and design.

Get to know good mechanic, then bring them for view and test drive :).. For me, wiring is the most important thing after engine and body..kalau salah boleh bakar woo..hehehe..good luck

I'm very new to e34's, but just bought a 520i vanos last week. Here is my story. It was the 4th e34 i met since I started my hunt. The car from first sight seemed very clean and the engine bay as well. Comparing to the first three it seemed the cleanest. Took it for a test drive and it felt good, a little under powered when you start moving but once you pick up speed it had good acceleration. I have tried 525i manual and auto just b4 this and they also felt heavy when slow. The asking price was reasonable for the condition of the car, after discount it was even more reasonable. Next day took it to a well know bmw shop for a check up, they did less than I expected, reved the engine, listened, then lifted the car looked underneath with a torch light, checked the exhaust, that's about it. They asked about the price that i was paying for it, they said I may want to get a new exhaust because the cat is not good, but other than that it was good. I payed the 80 bucks inspection fee and off to puspakom.

I'm worried about future maintenance cost, but heck it is a very nice ride.

Good luck in your hunt.

AE75,

E34 is not common for rust issue unlike the E30. When you view the car, check for places like the boot area at the bottom of the rear glass. Check the firewall.... you got to open the bonnet and take a peek below the wiper arms. If it were to get rusty, these 2 places would be the place to look for.

No matter how good the condition is the car, it is wise to set a side RM5k just for maintenance and repairing. Cars at that age... I am sure you need to change a few bushes, absorbers and etc. Changing the auto fluid, auto filter, engine oil and oil filter alone will set you back about RM1k. Once you get the necessary replaced, it will last for a long long while. So.... RM5k will be a good start.

E34 is one of the reliable Bimmers. The spare parts are affordable such as suspension parts, engines, gearbox compared to newer Bimmers. However, body parts on E34 some times are hard to come by but you can still find them if you know where to look for.

Well~ why you all said M30 are the best? It seem almost same power band to M50B25 engine.
