Should I get single or double vanos?

Hi All,Greetings. Allow me to do little intro before i proceed with my Qs. Name Danny and i just joined the club with intention to socialize, learn and seek guidance on this marvellous babe. I have been accustomed to Japanese cars for many years and decided to venture into BMW model particularly e38 2.8 for a start. Still not accustomed to the technologies and specs behind this beautiful car. Read thru the threads ...wah!!! too many many threads on e38, and i may be wrong (please forgive me) , it doesn't address some of the questions i have. Thus am writing as I am seeking guidance and help from the members. Questions that I have are:1. Should i consider single or double vanos? 2. How about the performance, oil consumption and maintenance cost between these 2 engines? 3. What year should i considered ?Since I am ignorant on the technologies and specs, i stand to be guided by the members. Looking forward hearing from all of you. ThanksRegardsDanny

My e39 is a double Vanos...
Fc sure better then single vanos that's for sure...
better performancen for sure...
maintenance wise depends what items...
last but not least what is your bajet? RMRMRMRMRM...

If money is not an object.. Newer would be better.... Saying that, single vanos is super easy and reliable.

mine is 2.8 single vanos, and driven the 2.8 double vanos in many occasion. well, there are pros and cons but i do enjoy the pick up feel from the single vanos. anyway, the M52B28 and the M52B28TU hp and torque is the same, except the TU torque is better in lower rpm

I am of the opinion if u hv a good condition 2.8 E38 the power is more than enough. Single and Double Vanos is just a small difference. Its the ride that you want.
