Hello sifu,Just wanna ask , I 'm earning 4k a month, SO you all think that I can afford to buy a BIMMER?? errmmmm let say E46? actually I quite like 1 series but I know 1 series is a bit expensive .......So please give some golden advise..................on maintainence, one time services include reset computer how much? how long need to change suspention and bushes,etc....Please advise before i step to this hole..............

my honest opinion, don't!
even thought you are single. better put ur money on property and get second E36. think long term. car value will always depreciate and it is only a car!

You are right in asking this question, it is a big investment. Burn is quite right in saying buy an E36, works the same-ish...

Good luck!

1 series is superb! hehe

if given me another chance ... i'll buy an e28 circa rm 5K cash --play wif it
and then source an e30 circa 20K or more cash-- mode it up and then purchase another E34 circa rm 30+ K cash and enjoy it as a family car or an E36... all 3 cars in less than 100K and i don't need to worry about my monthly instalments and car maintainance... and also will have ample of money to spend else where ...etc holiday , properties and so on ...

best buy == buy an E30 and mod it to an M3 spec. happy overall cuz tarak hutang....

but then it's up to your choice of preference....

well first of all, welcome to the club dude.
tell u wht,pop by for tt after cny as there will be an icebreaking tt for newbies at our regular official tt spot in showru on friday 10th february.
or,theres oficial tt this friday at the same place....its nxt to the MAS training centre and we r mostly there by 9.30pm onwards.
once ur there there will b many sifus and owners alike who will gladly share their experience and advice u as to which udm to buy.

my advice is to get either an e30(if u like old skool performance) or an e36 if u like modernistic performance ....i mentioned this 2 models coz they r both pretty reasonable to maintain and repayment isnt as bad as an e46..
at least tht way,the money u save on not buying an e46 will be put into modding ur e30 or e36...

a rough price guide for them r....

e30 RM12k up to RM23k

e36 RM43k up to RM140k

e46 RM100k up to RM380k

e90 above RM200k onwards.....

hope this helps

rgds,
-brad-

But sifu, from the day1 I hear bout Bimmer, the e36 gave alot alot of problem.....such as the famous over heat/water pump and rediator problem...even if you changed it.

10 feller out of 9 feller face this problem...... I scared liao after getting the news from the previous E36 owner.....

Now everyone change to E46 and I don't hear and problem until now.....maybe yes, but as you know car is a machine, sure got some problem after so many years. At least not a major problem.

That's why I asking for E46. Eeerrrrmmmm E30 I quite like it but is abit old liao..... Me now only aged 24, asking me to take E30 feeling like having dad's car? If you ask me go for Evo or WRX , i got no interested. Previously drive evo 2 and 3......not really wanna go for turbo cars anymore...

Planing to get the latest civic or accord "2nd option", but Civic not yet come dunno nice or not ? Accord like driving daddy's car. Although bimmer is for mid-age guys but for a youngster quite "yeng" ma......

OK ok since you all not agree , then recomend me what else car should I buy? Anyway I'm planing to buy an E46 second hand not new ...NEW totally cannot afford.

My, my you just insulted quite a number of people in here...

I been thrashin my E36 325i no over heating so far ... touch wood and the maintenance very reasonable :D

drken, 3 series where got dad's car? Dad's car is usually the 5 series or bigger ones so that more family members can fit. U've insulted so many members already coz many young owners here driving e30.. heheh

if u're earning 4k a month then don't get the e46, coz a decent e46 would set you back at least 2k a month in installments (depending on your downpayment) and that doesn't leave u much for other things. If you're single, u gotta think about your future .. don't need the cash to 'kow lui' and have fun meh? If you're married, even worse.. what about your house and other commitments? If you ask most e46 owners here, I believe most are earning 5 figure incomes before they even consider getting it.

I myself just got an affordable e36 and drove it to Johor with the guys and no heating problems whatsoever. Still solid after 3 months. With 2nd hand cars you have to make sure it is well inspected before purchase, better if u know the owner beforehand at least he won't sell you a lemon coz u can chase after him. On the other hand, my friend has a colleague who bought the new 5 series and it went ot the workshop 17 times in 3 months...so hard to say also sometimes depends on your luck.

Obviously you've never ridden/driven in an e30 before.

Best you try driving all the car in your 'wish' list e30, e36, e46 and even the e34. All of which are great driving machines and and not too pricy

If you're looking for a car to show off in, stick with jap or even better still get a merc........ :yes!:

10 feller out of 9 feller face this problem...... I scared liao after getting the news from the previous E36 owner..... ------> man ohh man that means i'm one of the lucky one you say ??? if you're scared then maybe you can think of another better car lorrr .. CIVIC TYPE R or other realiable japanese ones which has got lotsa power and torque....

Now everyone change to E46 and I don't hear and problem until now.....maybe yes, but as you know car is a machine, sure got some problem after so many years. At least not a major problem--------> are you sure bout this man ? but yet your statement is the same as the above marrr.. problem that's soon be arising.

if you have decided an E46 second hand one there is one for sale in the classified add.. check out the white E46 that belongs to shedden. Get that one lorrr...

ALL THE BEST and welcome to the club with lotsa fun.

go get an e46

less problems, less headache, less jealousy, less BS,less crap to deal with

FYI, I fell in love with udm's after my first ride in an e30 and I was 25 at that time. Got bitten and smitten  . The car was sold to make space for current ride but what a loss. Hope the next owner cared for it as much as I did.

bro..when i was making that much a month,i bought myself an e30 320i for rm50k.changed the engine and gearbox(2.5)ported and polished, sports exhaust and filter, upgraded the suspension and slapped on a set of Racing Dynamics alloys and BBK.WOW!!!! at the age of 19,it made a huge contribution to my young hot blooded life!!! best days of my life man.... :yes!:
while most of my mates were going crazy over VTEC power(circa 1992-93),i had the torque of a 6cyl bimmer..left them for dead while they howled away their puny engines!!! on the highway, they wudn't even see where i went!! rock stable even at 220kph B).whenever we plan a long distance driving holiday/party,everyone wud leave their VTECs behind and fought their way to my car..
loved the e30....no points in guessing which model i'd recommend...

but how to survive with 4k ?

2k - installments
1k - food & travelling expenses
1k - rental, electricity & car repairs/maintenence

which means zero savings and if something major goes wrong then you've got no money to repair... I woudn't recommend that unless there is more disposable income.

E30/36 would be just nice within budget. A nicely done up e30 with lots of juice under the hood is still better than a bare minimum e46 with no money for maintenance.
