dear sifus,I have this problem of going over small cracks on road, tiny potholes or uneven road like the ayer keroh - alor gajah north south highway- sound is not dampered. big bumps slowly no sound. do the usual suspension test suggested in one the thread- bounce alright.what could it be? does suspension konk at early stage like that ?what other symptoms for konk suspension?thousand thanks.

How old is the suspension?

What type of spring and shock absorbers?

How old are the bushes, tie rods, shock absorber mounts, etc?

Might be time to replace some parts.

How long shocks last depends on how you drive, type of road, etc.

Also, what type of sound, and coming from where? Front, back, both front and back, chassis, left side only, right side only, etc.

mine is UK spec. 523i 2000. all ori. bought 2yrs. recently saw mech. changed upper arm both front. told others still can use. sound better but not totally silent yet.
thinking of getting new ori shocks. takut very expensive. want to get more input and be very sure first otherwise changed and still get the sound, frust oh.
the sound comes from all four wheels when i go over the small cracks or lines.

Thanks for the info.

So, your parts are at the very least at least two years old. Your shocks probably older.

Check out the member's review of Bilstein shocks and see if it suits you.

As for the sound, you need to be sure where they are coming from. It is unlikely to be coming from the shocks.

More likely things like bushes, mounts, etc.

A bit of informercial, M1 Kayu Ara was very good at diagnosing my sounds and squeaks for me.

are the blistein as good as ori? price in ori? other than AB, does outside workshop install ori shocks?

thanks

I tried to test the shocks myself- pressing down the place where the shocks are and see how it bounce?- well, it bounces up back and down slightly only then stop. it does not go up and down. is this the way to test and is it normal?

It could be due to the bush....I was told by one mechanic, he checked that for me too.
