Replacement of New battery(Bosch)

Dear Bimmers,

Need advice from all the seniors forumers here.

Got myself a new Bosch battery for my car, '05 E90 330i, is it necessary to use a charger or another car batt. attached to the car while removing the old battery?

Once replaced, necessary to bring the car to the BMW dealer to get it coded for the new battery?

Most important factor on battery is the number of plates in it. Less reliable batteries have lesser number of plates.

The purpose of registering the new battery is to inform the ECU of the charging cycle required because new battery and old battery demand different charge cycle, and of course the battery capacity. Old battery need to charge longer vice versa. If you don't register, your new battery will be overcharged most of the time leading to shorter lifespan.
