Sifus,
Need to replace my gearbox due to gear slips. Recently saw in Mudah many recond gearbox. How reliable is it? Had check that rebuilt coz more and my ride only for weekend. Pls advice whether is advisable replace with recond. Txs

You have another option, which is to rebuild your gearbox. This way , you know the replaced components are new. Chop shop gearbox is a fast solution but you will never know the condition. There are few gb rebuild shops in KL and Penang which can do a good job, some even have a test rig to test your gb before assemble back to car.App 3 days required.Either way, there are pros and cons.

You mention gear slipping, get a good workshop to test or run a diagnostic test as it just may be a simple problem which can be fixed.

The gearbox I saw in Mudah is recondition units with 6 month warranty not from chop shop.

Recon units are usually unit that are having problem. The shop will only change the broken parts and claim it as recon.
Sometime, a few broken GB are salvaged to make a recon one. So it is a matter of luck and depend on the supplier.

I would rather get a second hand GB (from Japan) as they are low mileage.

Rebuilt is better coz all the parts are changed as the repair kit come in a set.

Think mine is having a symptom of GB problem now, 4th & 5th gear having hesitation symptom between upshift & downshifting, today even coming our loud roaring sound on & off.
Any idea how much is a rebuilt cost?
Has ask my mechanics and he's saying about 3.5-4K inclusive labour & ATF fluid, but forgot to ask whether it's a recon or rebuilt unit.
To get a 2nd GB may a bit tricky to know the mileage it's used, unless you know someone from the chopshop then it's different story.

Not sure what is your, model but I would rather change the solenoid first, filter and ATF first before going for the rebuilt.

However, rebuilt do take time (approx 1 week or so). If recon, make sure that the transmission are from Japan as they are usually low mileage.

I think yours price is for recon unit. They will most probably take your old GB in exchange for the recon unit.

Mine is ZF5HP gearbox.
If you say rebuild need to take 1 week, thin the option offer to me is a recon unit.
I manage to find your old posting about solenoid valve service, I also think I should look into this method first since I did experienced a solenoid valve failure on my previous old Accord.

To clean the solenoid, you need only to do the following:-
1. Drain and replace ATF.
2. Remove g/box cover to remove ATF filters & to access the valve body.
3. Clean or replace the solenoid.
4. Change oil seal.
5. Reassemble
6. Refill ATF.

Any suggestion which work shop can do this repair job good, efficient and also reasonable price? Roughly how much will it cost in total (inclusive labour, wear & tear part repair, ATF change etc)?
