I had this irritating noise obviously from the driver's door and window when go oven uneven road.If I wind down the window slightly, the sound will dissapear.Went to my SC and they had put a 3M tape along the door frame, but it only reduce the sound slightly. After that they put a silicon-spray type on the door rubber seal,it works but only for a week the sound came back. Some had suggested change the door seal and AB suggested change the rain gutter which will cost me approximately RM 1400 excl labour.Anyone had this experience on their E90 hope can share the countermeasure. Thanks

this rattling noise happens on some e90s. both the countermeasures u mentioned are standard procedures by the bmw workshops when customer complains about the said noises. if ur car isnt under warranty, do it the cheapest way, ie the tape. :)
If u bought the car from AB, they should at least have goodwill warranty for u, as its a design fault. or maybe a discount for u la.

do a search on bmw sg forums.

Thanks Bimmerdude.I will search in BMW-sg forum.FYI my car is not AB car and no way i can claim any warranty fom them. It's a Naza imported car and it's a Europe CBU.Obviously the CBU car also have the design flaw and quality issues..

there is a correct technique to stick d tape. pls do check the workmanship af putting d tape. if u can still see d tape edges after closing ur doors, then pls ask SC ppl 2 redo it again. but d best option is to replace the rain gutter, which SC ppl call it rain channel. mayb by adjusting the door hindge also might solve d prob.

dun worry, as bimmerdude posted, it is a std counter measure of putting d tape n d silicon on the rain channel. dont worry. actually, they need to put d silicon n wax remover, not d silicon. silicon might do d trick but as d silicon dries up, d sound will emerge again. try using silicon n wax remover. this might do d trick

I have read about this issues on E90 in BMW-sg forum.Look likes it also happen to a new car and this is because of the design flaw on the rain channel. The final and ultimate countermeasure after taping and silicon is changing the rain channnel.I'm not sure if the rain channel can be source cheaper outside of AB since they have quoted me RM1.4 k for a pair.

I think the design has not change from the e46. Im having the same issue on the e46 and also on my e92. then they have change it for me under warranty.

velocity,

i also got this iritating squeky noise right from the first day i get the car from sapura...just a few weeks ago i sent the car in for the first 10k lube change i mentioned about the squeky sound from the doors..they have fix the tape and the noise has gone..

i believe this is not a permanent solution as the tape will wear in time....how do you manage to get them to replace ur rain gutter if i may ask?

thanks in advance.

I also have some "tak" sound occassionally when the car go into uneven road at certain angle. I know it is difficult to detect such sounds, now the gear console has squeaking sounds. Is it normal or it can be rectified ?

Yup etquah.Same thing happened to me now.A gear console has started squeaking too.As for me I managed to eliminate the noise temporarily by rubbing a silicon based rubber protectant from BMW at the felt area near the door seal.It is call Gummifledge. But this will only last about a week.

I had this issue in my e46 previously and now sometimes in my new e90 as well. It "depends" on the weather .... i.e. the sound will sometimes come after certain cold rainy days...must be the contraction of the rubbers. I recently rode in a e90 LCI model demo car .... omg, it had rattling sound on all the windows. Wonder why BMW get this wrong. I also had some water leaking into the carpets from driver's door of my e90. I went to Ingress three times already & each time was told that it is due to the door seals .... hope this recent 3rd time fixes the problem once and for all!

Hi Guys, I have this same issue on my E46, E90 pre LCI and now also on my new E90 LCI version. Don't go AB, they can never solve your issue. I bought my E46 from AB and they can not fix it even till I sold it off. AB basically does adjustments on the hinges, which I believe it is wrong, as the sound is still there and the wind comes in from the doors.

However this issue is solved easily by Sapura & Ingress by simply sticking a layer of silicon tape. It works perfectly on my E90.

Interesting feedback from few but mind me asking, why the 2 methods suggested has nothing to do with each other? Are there 2 separate issue here we are trying to fix?

Door noise, I notice our rubber door seals are coated with a layer of powdery substance so it should not produce noise when rubbing occur when the door moves when the chassis flexes during drive.

I would suspect when washing the car, certain things should not be washed too clean and this is one of them, the other thing is the bonnet/boot damper shaft. In fact the powdery coat also protect the rubber door seal from aging. The car wash guy has a shinny liquid to rub on all rubber surface to make them bling bling and that's a big mistake!

As for the rain gutter, its a clip on metal part. I still can't imagine what can go wrong with it.

I think is all depends on your luck. I have it (Rain Channel) changed for 2 times aldy, noise still there... I wonder 325 have this noise or not cos 325 rain channel had a chrome surface, dunno whether that's make any different....

When washing the E90, do u all korek korek the rain channel to clean its channel? I don't. Can it be the korek korek procedure loosen the channel?

I had the same problem for my 325i msport LCI just after 3 months. Cracking noise all the 4 doors. Sent to AB segambut and they put on the tape under the rain gutter and all solve. Under waranty.

Even my previous 320i SE got the same problem but didnt bother to check and sold off ready.

I share the same problem & irritation as you guys on my E60. Did the spraying of leather care on the felt area as well as all the rubber parts at the door frame, but the noice came back after 1-2 weeks. Couldn't stand the cracking noice, sent the ride to have the Taflon tape done last weekend at Sunway. Thinking that it should help. But after reading your thread, at the back of my mind I siad "Oh Shit, I might not solve the probelm!"

Some who are lucky where they somehow manage to solve the problem. I am very sure there are a lot more UDM owners out there who suffer in one way or anothet for the same problem. (correct me if Im wrong)

Just something I noticed, the felt area at the door frame is actually some kind of tape attached to the rubber part & stick at the door frame. It is this felt tape that lost its elasticity characteristic, and that actually cause the rubbing cracking sound. IMHO, if we can source the felt tape and have it replace or retape, the real problem should be solved.

Again, It's just my own observation. So any help from the fellow foremers, where can we get the felt tape? Pls advice and help to get rid of our sorrow!

CHEERS!

Sometime I wonder, our chassis flex so much meh? Those JDM all using inferior rubber seal also no such problem.

That's what I'm thinking too Astroboy.....My previous JDM never had this irritating noise and I never treat the rubber seal as this before.anyway still trying to resolve the issues.

WMB23, will update when found a new solutions.
