Hi all, after owning an E39 for 5 years and putting up with the annoying window rattle, problem is now solved. Yes, it's the window rattle that disappears when you open the window slightly. I tried all kinds of things over the years, from teflon spray to WD40, talcum powder, sticking all kinds of material on the door frame etc. Nothing worked.

Saw this solution on a 540 website. Basically, just get an all-weather felt strip and stick on the top part of the door using double-sided tape. There's some steel part after the rubber lining. did it yesterday and after driving through some rough roads, there was no noise. Giving myself a pat on the shoulder for not giving up !!

I'll try and post photos.

Great! I've post this to the e60 and x series also. There's a tape that Rsmalaysia sells, that solved my issue indefinitely

I don't follow E60 otherwise probably would have tried your way. Let me know if the solution last. Anyway, the felt material I use is cheaply and easily available from Ace Hardware. Used half of it for the one door.
