are you running m20b25 engine with a 4.10 diff?
i dunno.,how to check.
sorry,newbie here.

:D hey Ice..nice car u have there.use to have one myself but mine was manual.
auto trannies are programmed not to exceed the engine's redline to avoid engine damage.if u floor it to the max,the box will shift just as it hits the redline..

Redlining your car is NOT in the best interest for your engine's health.....auto & manual. For Auto, if it is a standard set-up ( gearbox, rear diff ratio, rim/tyre size ), red lining should NOT happen.

Btw, check your Tacho & it's sensor at the end if you have verified all mechanical parts are okay....and it still redlines!

Find the reason and fix it......

aik...M20 can revs up to 8000rpm meh..????

ask axle to explain this he knows it well. he is having this problem hehehehehe

It will also redline if you are using the a 4-pot meter on a 6-potter. I have experienced this before... my rpm goes all the way to the other side :p I mean all the way to the consumption gauge.

how to know its 4 potter or 6 potter?what is potter anyway?

my ride is a conversion from 318 to 325.i dunno if my dad still using the 318 meter after the conversion.is this the matter?

I was under the impression driving the car to the redline occsionally removes any excess carbon buildup in the engine?

I drive a E46 318i with the 2.0 N42 and i rev 500rpm past the redline on a daily basis.

Even my gf's E46 320i with the 2.2l revs 500rpm past the redline.

I think maybe the first 1000 - 1500rpms of the redline is more of a security to prolong engine life and not so much the fact that there will be any adverse effects on operability and long term life of the engine... I THINK. :D

Dont call me if your engine kaboom when u rev to redline. Heheh

I do it anyways..

The redline begins at 6000rpm (or whatever). The fuel cut off is 500 rpm after that. Hope that explains.
