i saw one unit 735iL at the workshop recently...the engine sounds when u crank it, almost the same like the E66 735Li...sounds good and makes me drooling....

So the tt is always on Friday nights at pprich, without fail? That gives me the chance to schedule my trip to kl next time!

oh yehs oh yes.. i think comign to the TT is a good idea... LOL.. racun kau kau!!

on a serious note, whichever car more than 10 years.. you will spend a fortune.. to restore it to its glory. Please be reminded this is a E38.. a pinnacle of its era... car made for statesman.. so it is really not for the faint of heart.. i have got mind under 50K KM.. yes very low milage.. so little things to do.. and it still cost me around 15K and all for small things.. plus a AC compressor..

So for a not so good looking ones... i would say easily 20K and above.... and not to forget paint job (4-5K), body Kit 2-3K, facelift HID and eye liners.. 1.5K, rear clear lights Rm800, tint RM1500, Upholstery 4-5K.. hang on.. hang on... let me cut and paste something..

1. Radiator & the hose - 1600 with hoses & expansion tank
2. Catalyst Converter - too much!!
3. Brake Disc - all round disc & pads.. Rm1800 stay awa from ATE
4. Dead Pixels on the display cluster and radio display Rm600
6. Test all electronic making sure it works - pain in the arse.. be patient.. not much money but lots of heart ache
7. Test the electric chair and memory seat feature - should not be big problem.. mostly cable issue.. can DIY (few teh tarik)
8. Make sure the speedometer is working - Can be expensive to repair if ABS faulty (each sensors around rm280)
9. Make sure the suspension is ok _ areally good one.. if all are gone.. go for titan.. RM3200... i think..
10. Ask when the parts replaced:- Water Pump if your car is over 100K.. i wont think twice to change it.. RM800
11. Vanos Seals..
12.

I think we are at around 25K at this point...

I agree with everyones comments - you have to be prepared to set aside some cash when you buy an E38 - I have spent over RM20k+ on my ride so far - but trust me when you have a well maintained and restored E38 nothing beats the driving experience:)

Yes, the tt will be at Paparich every Friday night, except that there'll be an official tt at Sunway, the Borneo Rainforest every first week of the month. This Friday i'm not sure yet bcoz got Club's Annual Dinner on Saturday.

For the CM or otais, please correct me if i'm wrong

The other guys have posted lots of good info already. Just to add a few more that I can think of:-

1. Make sure the trims are in good condition. Very expensive to replace and very difficult to find.
2. Check rubber seals on doors n trunk. Another part that is expensive to replace.

Also, being a 97 735i, its probably the single vanos M62B35. There could be the infamous nikasil issue if it is a UK grey import model. Also, since this engine is quite rare here, engine parts may be difficult to find as compared to the 728i which shares its engine with the E46 328i and E39 528i. I think the M62 can only be found in either another E38 535i or an E39 535i which is very rare in Malaysia. Other sifus may be able to confirm or correct this tho...

Also, being a V8, general engine related maintenance is going to be more la.... more spark plugs, more oil etc. etc.

If you can overlook all this... you'll be rewarded with a very nice V8 growl :D

My experience testing a E46 328i and E38 728i (same engine).... you'll definitely notice the 7er's weight.. but what you lose in acceleration and handling is made up completely in comfort.

Good luck!
