Bro mizhan, mind to share the cost of service at Optimum?
And, is it really ok for us to service outside of BMW SC before sending in for the free service?
My 320i is closing to 7k km now and still undecided on where to send for service.
And, will they reset the service indicator?

Thanks

I go to Optimum due to my long standing relationship with the guys there. So for me visits to Optimum is more than just about cost saving and quick turnaround. Therefore it will not be right for me to quote what I paid. However you can expect about RM100 saving compared to a lube & filter job at an authorised SC.

I performed my 320d's 7.5k km, 22.5k km and recently the 37k km lubejob at a non-authorised place. I don't see anything wrong with it, so long as you don't reset your computer after those oil change. Also, get your air filter elements cleaned/replaced as often as you change oil; if you're driving a diesel, that will reduce a lot of exhaust smoke.

Bro, mind to also share at what km u went in for the BSRI free service?

According to my car's oil change reminder, it is approximately 15k kms interval. What does yours say?

Hey guys, I was wondering when am I suppose to bring in my car for service? I'm driving a 320d and it says 1100km to next service & service due soon. The BSRI only covers my service if I reach 0km or I can already bring it in for service anytime?

You should be able to do it at this point.

Just wondering, my f30's service interval is set at 30k km per computer. what the means to me is that actual mileage driven could be more than 30k km before the computer dictates a service being due (for free given bsri).

since i pay my own oil change every 10k km, i would think the computer would now run down the set 30k km very slowly.

am i and other owners who pay for own oil change at set intervals f*cked ?

Service interval at 30k km? That's awfully long to wait...what more with our rain & shin weather and the very dusty roads! Mine's at every 12k km though...maybe different engine as mine's the 316i so maybe shorter interval?

actual mileage will be much less than 30km esp. More urban drive idling style of drive etc.
yes. Any service outside the BSRI you pay. I count myself luckily AB waived labour charge and I paid RM 486 for oil and filter.

Hi Sean

My car's bsri package is at 30,000km interval (mid 2012) - which sucks and which after loads of complaints, theyve revised the service interval for NEW batches of F30 to 12,000km. Unfortunately those clowns, conveniently left the old batch(es) at 30,000km interval. It is appalling. For about RM500+ oil change cost, they have eroded the goodwill to the BMW name. A shame. The lesson ? Dont buy first batch of anything - pay more to be guinea pig.

Hi Keng Kok

I drove 10,000km and the computer's mileage countdown dropped 3,000km only. After my recent service, it's gonna drop even slower bcos the computer will 'sense' the oil is 'ok' (after oil change of course better lar). Cost abt RM540 + labour. WTH man..

Cheers

My experience with this issue is quite similar to yours.

I serviced my car at 6000 on my own at wearnes. When I was due for my 12 000 service at ingress, they told me I wouldnt be able to service my car until the indicator said so.

My argument to them was very simple and I believe all of you can use it.

ME : You explained to me that BMW ECU is smart and it can detect the quality of the oil in the engine?
BMWSA : Yes Sir. Thats exactly right.
ME : Fair enough, so if I were to service on my own at 6000 KM, wont my engine oil be cleaner than it should be compared to a car which has not done an interval service ?
BMWSA : Errmmm. Yes, I would think so.
ME : Wouldnt you say that the Smart BMW ECU is detecting my cleaner engine oil and automatically delaying my service ?
BMWSA : Ermm, Yes, that is possible.
ME : Does it matter whether I service my car at 1 000, 2 000 or 10 000. When I bought the cars, you guys promised to service at 12 000. Just because the BMW ECU is SOOOOO Smart to detect my interval services. Does not mean you can forgo my rightful BSRI Service at 12 000. Am I right ?
BMWSA : Yes sir, we will service your car for you. Maybe next time you can do your interval service at Ingress instead of Wearnes, so we will have a direct record instead of going into the BMW system.
ME : Sure, I will do my interval services here next time. Thanks !

Conclusion : Service done at 12 000 as per BSRI.
Meh :p
You dont BS someone like me. I will skewer you to da wall !

ingress will do it if you tell them you're paying for an oil/filter change.

They did it for me . FOC. as part of my BSRI. I will not pay when its rightfully under BSRI. Regardless whether my car says 3 500 KM more.

Hahha. Its the principle of it .

i meant for an outside-of-BSRI job.

Oh yeah. They will do it. But Wearnes was having a special that time.

Using Castrol instead of Petronas and it was about 100 bucks cheaper than Ingress :p

China man in me went for the better deal :p

Hi Omni

Thanks for sharing the tip - will certainly f*ck them if they try to be funny.
The whole BSRI servicing interval thing is simply ridiculous man...

Also, isnt the engine oil use 'standard' across the nation ? the one I use is Shell.
Really really odd situation.

Am still very sore why they dont change my service interval to 12000km like the newer cars..aiseh..

Cheers bro

Hey,

To my knowledge, the engine oil is determined by the Dealer not BMW.

Ingress uses Petronas
Wearnes uses Castrol (as per bmw manual)
And Your uses Shell...

Who knows which oil is better. My dad told me dont be a jack ass. Its all the same. Hahahaha.
