My 1st service, SC use castrol edge 5w30 engine oil as stated in the bill. Is this engine oil common? The fully syn oil i used for my japs car is normally 5w40 or 5w50 mobil 1.

Japanese and european cars are different.

Follow the BMW owner manual. Quote from page 275 of the manual:

Viscosity grades for engine oils
When selecting an engine oil, ensure that the engine oil belongs to one of the viscosity grades SAE 0W-40, SAE 0W-30, SAE 5W-40, and SAE 5W-30 or malfunctions or engine dam‐ age may occur.◀
The engine oil quality is critical for the life of the engine.
Some types of oils in some cases are not avail‐ able in all countries.
Approved oil types
Specification
BMW High Performance SAE 5W-30 BMW Longlife-01
BMW Longlife-01 FE

Same here, SC used Edge Pro BMW LL01 5W30 for my post break in service.

Hey guys, I was wondering when am I suppose to bring in my car for service? I'm driving a 320d and it says 1100km to next service & service due soon. The BSRI only covers my service if I reach 0km or I can already bring it in for service anytime?

I replaced engine oil & filter (outside BSRI) last Sat after 7000kms. Drained oil was noticeably dirty and engine immediately felt much smoother with new oil. The recommended 15000km interval between oil changes is absurd.

So, for new car, should still send it at 2000km for break in service before rempit? ;)

As long as the yellow light appear on panel can send for service which cover under BSRI. Mine 1st service at 11,100km under BSRI

5.2 litres for 320d. 5 litres also can if you want to save a bit of money and not have leftover oil.

Thanks Spex! Looks like I'd have to wait till after Raya to service. I think the service centres is going to be dead packed. :)

I did mine at Optimum. Cheaper and only took 25 minutes.

Bro mizhan, where is Optimum eh? Do you have the address? I'd like to do a more frequent service interval outside. :) I'm a BMW noob not sure where to find good mechanics haha

Crescent, give Jason@Ah Foo a call at 012-308 1891. Optimum is located in Kayu Ara. There's a row of shops after Petronas and a furniture shop on the left side of SPRINT highway, after Damansara NKVE toll.

Bro Mizhan,

Some silly questions from me:-

a) how many liters for a 328i ?
b) the amount stated for (a) above will indicate dipstick at 'max' level right ?
c) are F30s sensitive to engine oil slightly above dipstick 'max' level ? am asking bcos the additive i have is about 0.3 liters

many thanks

Cheers

Bro mizhan, mind to share the cost of service at Optimum?
And, is it really ok for us to service outside of BMW SC before sending in for the free service?
My 320i is closing to 7k km now and still undecided on where to send for service.
And, will they reset the service indicator?

Thanks

Volume figures are from experiences with my 320d. For 328i better consult the appropriate tech manual. Total volume of oil plus additive shud correspond to the prescribed volume.
