As im burning down to my very soul, I have to post this thread to all the bmw lovers. Just now my dad just made a decision of selling off my car. MY CAR....MY bmw 318i e30 which i love. well his reasons were very presuasive. he told me that the car has been with us for almost 17 years now, and it has been giving a problem every since. Not to mention that i am studying in australia for the time beeing. And i come back home every half year and take out the car for a spin.Enough said, Question here, how do you guys maintain your e30?and what are the points that i could come up to my dad so that ill get to keep the car?THANKSS MATE CHEERS

First of all, are you planning to come back here to work????
If not, all the more reason to sell the car if no one's driving it.

Reason not to sell the car, if you intend to come back to work after ur studies, what car can you get at the price the E30 is selling for. kancil? iswara?
The 318i is an easy engine to maintain if it's in good hands.
Change the engine to the M42 if the current M40 has seen its last mile... The M42 engine is more powerful and at the same time pretty durable.

However, there are also a whole lot of reasons to sell of the car.
1 thing for sure, parts would be more and more difficult to get. normal wear and tear parts still can get. But things like body panels, bumpers are difficult to find now. Of cos, I'm referring to used parts, new parts are way too expensive to consider.

You and your family need to find a new mechanic. The e30 318i with the m40b18 is one of the most trouble -free cars ever built.

Reasons not to sell?

1. The e30 is a modern classic. Values are appreciating.
2. It is the epitome and icon of 80s motoring era
3. Spares and servicing IS cheaper than our national car. ( You need to find a competent and honest mechanic)
4. You cannot afford to buy a comparable brand new car when you graduate. ( this should be the best argument IMHO) The closest replacement is an e90 320i....guess how much those cost in RM.....

PS: Young man, here's some friendly advice: do your research and contain your emotions. This forum is for sharing knowledge and opinions, not for emotional outbursts....

thank you for your comment. this is not an emotional outburst. i asked for an opinion about the car pretty much. its just the way i say it may seem like it. but thanks thou
