Where got water proof filter wan lar! Got meh????

Like the Necc said, why is there a water problem ar? U diving in your car ar?

hmmmm.....very nice indeed calvin.....still the racun king i c??

btw....got such thing as a waterproof air filter ah?
if got,thn for e30 got or not???

blitz do make filters out of fine mesh stainless steel (sus304) which is water proof. but in all honesty for NA cars the risk of water ingress via filters due to induction is minimal in my opinion, as others stated.

risk is only appreciable for forced induction cars running very high boost (>1.5bar) with naca ducts in the rain.

Go take a look at a stock BMW air filter.

Realise that it's made of paper.

Is paper waterproof?
which is the reason for my question.....seriously this is the 1st time i hav heard of it and i am curious.... :p

What you called stainless steel a water proof??? Then K&N is a water proof too. Both after wash still need to dry it then can only start the engine right. Or waterproof means prevent the water from going thru the filter / engine?

If I may add - I believe K&N are waterproof....the elements are oil protected.

Maybe I am wrong to quote these examples but K&N and similar oiled elements are used in Offroad races ( like the BAJA 1000 ) where they plough thru water and the likes.

My colleague who used to spanner Formula Fords in Europe told me......all formula cars ( F.Ford, F2000 ) have such oiled filters and do not suffer water ingress.....

I dun know - do a check with K&N website-loh.

In any case, rain dun come horzontally flat and I believe a good design will have some catch point ( & drain ) for this CAI. Calvin, can confirm this loh.....see if got small drain hole at end of CAI, engine end.

cheers.

well problem solve! Jules thanks for clearing things up.
Anyone anything to add?

calvin,

don't worry. in practice, i personally do think that kahar's concern about water damaging the engine with the gruppe m intake you happen to sell is a very remote likelihood event. whther they use the standard blw filter, or k&n or blitz etc. so people can feel free to buy it even if the price has gone up from 6k+ to 7k+, even if chester was indeed selling it for 7k+ back then.

i have no incentive whatsoever to prove or disprove, afterall, i don't sell anything.

but if i may add to the overall scheme of things, coming from a pure performance point of view, rm7k+ is indeed a lot of money to spend on eye candy which only gets licked when the hood is popped.

i know, there is some gain in the gruppe m from preventing hot air into the engine, but you could get it done equally well with plastic or fibreglass without the extra cost of kevlar or carbon fibre. sure, its light, but when it represents less than 1% of the total weight of a streetcar like this, the effect is submerged beneath the noise floor.

so really, for an aesthetic item like this, there isn't much to clear technically is there?

if it makes people feel good that they've spent a lot of money in doing their car up for psychological gains? what's so wrong?

you forgot the aural benefits.

the agressive induction note alone more often than not can be.... well, priceless.

Induction noise. Exhaust note. Has everyone forgotten how sweet an S54 sounds- by itself- whilst closing in on the red-line?

I have did the acrylic and sponge with aluminium foil head shield to my other car, yes it do gain some power. And the cost is cheap. A piece of acrylic, a piece of sponge with aluminium foil, Dunlop glue, a piece of cardboard (for template purpose), blade, ruller and a pen. That's it. It probably cost less than RM20 and a day of your free time.
But I want to be different this time. Is that wrong?

Nothing wrong in spending your own money. Like i said before, if you can afford it & you like it, BUY BUY BUY! Money well spent i think once you start to smile when you drive your ride or pop the hood to look at it.
Normally those who cant always will say not worth it.

As far as I'm concerned, CT was just showing off his new mod. You got it, you flaunt it.

veli funny how this thread is becoming.......

how many of us with 300bhp or more can use the horses properly on street.....??? however if it makes u happy to be able to claim "I have 300bhp..." then so be it-loh cos its ur hard earned cash!

anyway - nice mod and CAI works - from science/engineering point of view.
