haha.. both are right... what is wrong is the manufacturer.. behr operates as moots says, and sachs as sewell says..

i wonder why both manufacturer builds them that way... but Behr is the right way to go, my friends car using the sachs is loud..

hell, anyway it's good to know the clutch is really working... every day rain & jam..

or They raised the tab on the clutch fan to stay full lock...easy to check.. remove the fan shourd, check the tab front of the clutch fan..

I believe it's not good for the car's MPG as well as the wear & tear of the other parts if the fan constantly locks and run at full speed. The most annoying part is the sound of the fan overshadowing the engine's rev everytime I step on the pedal.

By the way, I have seen some forums mentioning Sachs is better than Behr. I am also confused myself after going through all those posts but all I noticed is that Sachs's design is somewhat different from the BMW ori part. I still have the original fan clutch from BMW. Is Behr the real OEM for the fan clutch?

yes, you are right...higher FC and more drag...

I went back to Optimum and they changed the Fan Clutch to Behr for me. I will be testing and see how it goes.

I'm using Behr clutch. Do post your feedback :)

I don't know if my mind is playing a trick on me but with the Behr fan clutch, I do not have to press hard to accelerate and neither does my car sound like an aeroplane. It's like ... what a BMW... should BE!!! =)

It was a real relieve. Both are fan clutches but I do not understand why Sachs produces such a loud roar when the clutch is engaged. Worse thing is, it gets engaged all the time. Optimum claims that Sachs is superior. I don't think I will disagree with him on that as I'm no expert but I can't accept the fact that my cabin sounds like an aeroplane all the time.

I believe the Sachs clutch fan is a defective one even though it is new.

dzeisen, probably your new SASHs fan clutch is faulty one..

I guess that could be the case although Optimum insisted that this is how it should be. Not to argue any further, I opted to test Behr & true enough, it is working as it should be.

Good to know you got it fixed and you're a happy man now :)

Did you mech charge or refund you any extra for the transition from Sachs to Behr?

Bro, For Optimum to say that, I think you should seriously consider sending your car to other workshops.

why do you think Optimum is wrong to say that the Sach clutch is working as it should be when it design that way.

The fact that they are willing to exchange the clutch to Behr brand when you are not happy shows that they are a responsible workshop.

There was no additional charges. The fact is of course he told me he was supposed to install Behr when I first went to the workshop. Somehow it ended up as Sachs. After my unsuccessful encounter with Sachs, he gladly changed it the what was originally quoted to me - Behr.

True Jarance. There wasn't any uneasiness at all in my dealings with Optimum. I posted up this forum to gather information & knowledge so that I am aware of how a fan clutch is supposed to work. With all the feedbacks from forumers, the communication with the mechanic was much easier.

Whether it is Sachs or Behr, the loud roar sound (when engine is cold) shouldn't be there. For Optimum to insist that Sachs' clutch fan should have the loud roar sound, i would considered them as novice.

I am using Behr as well. No problem. I think ur Sachs' is faulty. Irregardless of brand, it shudnt have the airplane sound when engine cold.

It may not be your Clutch fan. It could be your thermostat. Please Note that there are 2 typr of thermostats one is High tempreture and the other is low tempreture. Dzeisen I think your car is fitted with hi temp. hi tempreture thermostat will clutch the fan when it senses heat in the thermostat.
