Hi all..I just got my e39 a few days ago... upgrading from e34 m50b20.. my new ride is 2002 e39 525i ckd.. m54b25. Original factory maroon just like my previous car.. ive been studying the car for months and started hunting shop to shop more than a month. Its really damn hard to find.. been looking all over penang n sg petani but no 525.. theres alot of 523.. 528.. and 520 but those are not what im looking for.. finally i had to travel to kl to try my luck and viewed 3 cars from different places. 2 of them didnt meet my expectation. Find my new love in shah alam.. it was belong to a used car owner n not for sale.. but I was at the right place and at the right time n he said 'yes I have one.. please wait my daughter n the car will be back any moment'.. after I did my inspection n a test drive we had a deal.. I get my car the next day after I made the payment n puspakom inspection. Thanks to my 2 friends who hosted n accompanied me tirelessly in kl..Now I need to touch some things up.. hey its 11 year old car, what do u expect?.. but nothing major.. just small things here n there.. plus I got the service record the previous owner did.. for those who are hunting e39 525 good luck n be careful with 523 get badged as 525. Always check the vin number, get familiar with the specs. Happy hunting..Started from now I will seek guidence with this car from sifus gurus otais from time to time. Thanks in advance. Cheers

Hi bro.

Regarding the 523i badged as a 525i, some are not owner's/dealer's fault.

The 523i released in Japan was badged as a 525i by BMW Japan. Not sure what their intentions are, but the car came out of Germany without a badge, and the '525i' was installed in Japan. I checked the original factory option list of one such car and there is an option called 'rear badge delete' or some other wording to that effect.

So those buying a 525i, beware. Even the registration card will say 525i and actually no one is cheating you.

Yes.. both 2494cc but different engines and different hp.... 523 with m52 engine... 525 with m54 engine... but sometimes there are 525 japan specs with m52 engines...

Haywire please confirm...

welcome to the club !!

Beware of those power windows, headlight adjusters, gearbox common problems !!

Mine gearbox kong within the first 6 months of getting the car. Had it reconditioned and used for another 1.5 years after that and its on its way out for good.
Another thing to watch out for is the steering lock, get it checked during your regular service. If old solution is either replace or remove and keep a steering wheel lock in the car.

U made me scare la ahsingh.. insomniac..

Now tell me the bright side la... something really nice to hear about e39..

Hahahaha... bro... any car sure got its issues. One thing i really like about mine is the handling and the pull of the inline 6.
My car has been pretty reliable besides being stranded twice only over the span of 3+ years with both problems being relatively easy fixes with the right parts. The joy of driving a car like this far outweigh the minor inconvenience and compared to my old alfa, its been no inconvenience at all. ;P

Italian alfa engine no problem, it was the smaller electronics that was a pain in the ass. That plus my car eats a battery a year, so always gotta jaga for signs of weakening battery.

e39 owner, saya newbie... dr semenyih.. adakah perlu saya daftar utk club e39 owner? terima kasih...
