I was thinking of it actually, it's just a matter of streching the cable and connecting it right!

GOOD NEWS for E39 owner... now u can remain your MID in glove box... i just manage to do connection to relocate MID to glove box... i will post the picture later. :)

What so special then?

I installed Hualingan on my year 2000 525 e39 last week. Here are some preliminary report.

I though of DIY but decided to do it at at SS2 accessories shop instead as i can wait to see the immediate result. The shop has done E46 installation before but my E39 is their first so the installer have to do a bit of fact finding during installation. Wiring not a problem to him but more towards placing the unit the right way. Took him about 3 hours to complete.

Feature wise, I am very happy although I will be more happy if some of the features like :

1. Auto dim or one touch dim when driving at night. Like a screen saver. Does not distract while driving or other passenger who want to have a good
sleep.

2. TV reception rather poor. Perhaps due to quality of the antenna. Perhaps this HINET H-100 brand ( http://www.mudah.my/HINET+H1+100+Car+TV+Antenna+with+Booster+Rated-7554546.htm ) is better. Claim to be highly rated at RM89.

3. Bluetooth phone mic not clear enough for the other parties we talk to hear. Perhaps need to installed another 3rd party mic like one of the forumner did to solve it. Wonder whether need to do some wiring or just plug in using standard jack. Someone may be able to highlight this. Pairing with BT is a breeze...great !

4. LCD screen rather glare during day time but look good at night. Perhaps need a 'hood' like typical LCD in newer model of BMW. I also need to look for a new LCD screen protector. Perhaps the one with 'anti glare' will help. Currently I have not taken out the protective layer yet. Anybody can suggest where can i purchase a 800 x 480 screen protector?

5. I could not find FADER function. But the R/L function for audio is great so I can play karaoke MTV and toggle the R/L. So far it supports .AVI but not others. I have no issue as I can just convert it easily to AVI.

6. the VIDEO PLAYER does not have 'time slider' function so you don't know the length of the video file and not able to slide to desired time location. You do have fast forward/back function though but it will be nicer to have time slide function.

7. USB/SD file list display is rather not attractive. Perhaps there is a better skin to address this. Anyone has the solution?

8. Reverse camera picture quality rather grainy. To low resolution perhaps.

That is all i have for now. Overall I'm very happy and have been enjoying it. One of my best investment on my E39.

Regards

1. Auto dim or one touch dim when driving at night. Like a screen saver. Does not distract while driving or other passenger who want to have a good

There have day light and night light setting, i set mine in level 1 at night and level 10 for daytime (max = 20). Alternatively, u can switch off the screen when u enjoy the music/radio at night time.

This one worth to try as well.

As i know to install the external mic, we have to open the headunit, meant it will void the warranty.

PC shop is the best place :4:

5, 6, 7. An upgrading firmware will definitely solve the problem. Stay tune.

8. Reverse camera picture quality rather grainy. To low resolution perhaps.

No idea

Hi all,
Just to share some differences between HUL and Dynavin so for future buyer to have more options. Both are good head Unit tho..

1. Auto dim or one touch dim when driving at night. Like a screen saver. Does not distract while driving or other passenger who want to have a good
sleep.

There have day light and night light setting, i set mine in level 1 at night and level 10 for daytime (max = 20). Alternatively, u can switch off the screen when u enjoy the music/radio at night time.

Till now i stil cant find this feature in Dynavin, good feature tho.. for me i just switch on the Idrive skin.

Havent install any yet.. dangerous to watch tv while driving, even for passanger sometimes it can be very distracting..

3. Bluetooth phone mic not clear enough for the other parties we talk to hear. Perhaps need to installed another 3rd party mic like one of the forumner did to solve it. Dynavin comes with a external Mic but even the build-in mic is good enough

4. LCD screen rather glare during day time but look good at night. Perhaps need a 'hood' like typical LCD in newer model of BMW. I also need to look for a new LCD screen protector. Dynavin comes with a screen protector, i fix it nicely, however the touch screen become havoc, touch point become inaccurate. Check with accessories shop, they said is like tat, they never install into touch screen unit.

5, 6, 7. An upgrading firmware will definitely solve the problem. Stay tune.

Dynavin comes with 2 USB connector at the back, 1 for modem and 1 for Thumbdrive. I pull the USB to glovebox, plug a 16gb Thumbdrive loaded with songs. Walla... media hub for MP3, Avi,Mpeg, photo.. played avi once, cant remember whether got indicator or not.

8. Reverse camera picture quality rather grainy. To low resolution perhaps.

No idea

I have no prob with ress, as long as can see the back will do.

Btw, BMW7833 bro, how is the papago? working?

Many thanks. How to switch off the screen but still listening to the radio?

As for the screen protector, i think i can buy the one meant for iPad. There is one available with anti-glare for about RM28. I need to cut to fit the HU. Claim to be anti-glare and finger print proof.

Just press the home icon (not the back icon) then press the power icon. U still can enjoy the music/radio even the screen switch off.

I found out i did something wrong liao! Damn..

Last try for today..

Oh ya.. when u extract the MFM.exe files (map files) select the M3GPS for X3/X5 then run... by default, it will create a C:\Navi\Maps\MFM folder. then copy the MFM folder and put it in MAPS folder in your PPGX5. OR you can straight select the MAPS folder in your papago so the MFM foler be created in the your PPGX5/Maps folder

Walao.. zzzz.. coz of bmw7833 use the wrong map file therefore the papago cannot run.. "pengsan":thefinger:

Dear all, you can try other map but if cannot run, pls use MFM-PPG-C100415a provided by the link.

Many thanks bkslee.
I wanted to try Papago too. I downloaded from Mediafire last night and till now not even quarter of it. So i re-download now. Hopefully it is completed within 1 our or so. Papago use Malsing map like Garmin?

My first impression, Papago is a bit lack respond in searching, typing and calculating. iGo is definitely better in animation and presentation.

Not sure how accurate the Papago map yet. I am using the latest map version 01/12/2010.
