Currently I have a e36 318i at home and im gona take over it soon, and I would just like to ask if anybody knows how much will it cost to change from 318 to 328. And where can I do this? Can I trade in my current engine also? its a 1992 model and the mileage is only 87k, Any help please 10q =) Oh ya and I also would like to ask what else will I have to change when i do this conversion? 10q.

Just sell ur 318 n find a 325 manual.......i beliave got one for sale at forum....less headache.....Convert to 328 will cost u a boom.....

But then I wont know where problems there are with that car, I have been driving this 318 sometimes since I got my lisence, and i have fallen in love with the car already. Cost a boom meaning how much? 10q

devil

i think it will cost near to 14k, or maybe more, this may include installation
but there are not many competant mechanic that can do a really, really, really good job, then it takes ages to complete, be perared to part wif your car about 2 weeks or so......

Then is it possible to trade in my current engine? and how much can I trade it in for? Do I have to change my gearbox and suspension too if I change the engine. 10q

i dont think your parents are going to be too happy to fork out forthe modifications and also the 1800 bucks a year in road tax...enjoy your 318i & know its capabilities before venturing into high power teritory!

I am going to pay for the modifications my self, road tax duno yet hehe, but seriously i just need a rough price on the engine and what else will I have to change.

Where do you live? If you are at nothern area i know a place for for conversion, and the felor know very well in conversion BMW engine B) . I saw a E34 with skyline turbocharged engine under the bonnet. And few unit with Alpina engine in it too  . But for your E36 318i conversion, you'll need the whole front unit from the E36 328i, Engine and wiring needs completely replace from your 318i. Not sure about the Engine price, mostly depends on the engine conditions. I don't think that'll cost you very much. Try to search the E36 328i front part from car chop shop. ;)

I live in pj, err.. ur saying that I have to say bye bye to the whole front part of my car? cant I just change the engine and stuffs? T_T anwyay thx for some info :p

the front part means the Engine, wiring, ECU and other related units. Not to chop your car into two pcs. Don't worry no bye bye to your car yet. That is normally ppl say front part conversion.

318 to 325 15k.... then 328? 20k wow.... Im gona pay through my pockets man haha, but anyone know a place which is good in doing it? =)

That what i suggested.....

Dont mind paying more money for this car, dont really feel like driving 2nd hand car, and I dont even know the owner  haihzz

Actually you''ll have problems from JPJ approval. Coz JPJ will only gives each engine upgrading up to 20% cc. For example 1800cc can only upgrade to max 2200cc. 2500cc upto 3000cc.
But there are certain ways to get the approval easier too, just like giving some extra $$ understable...Or to get approval without Extra $$, you might need to upgrade from 1.8L to 2.2L then upgrade again from 2.2L to 2.6L and upgrade again from 2.6L to 3.0L. You cannot upgrade from your 1.8L to 2.8L in just once upgradetion. Unless your car is for track use. I personally suggest you to replace your current model for it.

correct me if i'm wrong....I think JPJ allowed 30% inceasing......

They dont allow from 1.8 to 2.8? I think it will cost me more to change 1 by 1, I rather pay them the extra money to get it approved. Omg im going through such a head ache just on the engine... but the 1.8 is really.. err slow? hehe

Lionel: You said you saw a 318 convert to 325? that is already more than 30% =.=
