hi guys.I'd like to ask all the e30 sifus who have done a m50 conversion. I'm thinking of doing a m50 2.5l conversion but have no idea where to start!I'm gonna categorise my questions and hopefully u guys can fill me in:top: 1. how much can i roughly expect to pay for the conversion?Include all possible costs and assume my car is running fine. sell your car and get a well done up e30 m50, there are 2 for sale, PM pussy for details.......

believe me, you do not want to go through the headache.....:stupid:

if you do wanto go ahead, be prepared to spend 20k or so
add another 5k or so for uprated suspension and maybe you can get a 5 lug conversion too

rest of details , you would need to hire me or pussy for consultation fees...:rock:
i charge more as i have 2 degrees......

but then pussy is the new Grand Sri Vahe Guru, so he can charge more then the rest of the lower levels of mahegurus...

you need more then luck if you are gonna go through this conversion, as you can't go back after you have started.......its just too painfull......

Jagmalhi, since i dun know you that well, but i'll advise you a bit since you ask..

1. how much can i roughly expect to pay for the conversion?Include all possible costs and assume my car is running fine. I'm currently driving a 318i manual 1991 m40.

- say provision, about RM22K for the parts and labour.

2. where can i get the parts needed and what will i need?

-you will need parts from a e34 or e36, longshaft, diff, exhaust, parts from m20,gearbox, flywheel,etc

3.what parts do i need to upgrade?suspension?brakes?exhaust?tires?

- when you convert, suspension and brakes need to be upgraded, if not bye-bye conversion, exhaust needs to changed to M50 type, tyres ?

4.where can i get the conversion done?someone really knowledgeable and not cut throat pls.

- there is a few places can do.. i shall not say here.. all charge's a heafty sum.
if you want a good job, they are not cheap.

5.can i sell my old parts and how much can i expect?

- your old set up can be sold for RM2k if the condition of your gearbox and engine is good.

6.what are the common problems with doing this swap?how can i avoid it?

- common problems ? a lot...frustrations,headaches, sleepess nights and short of funds when things go wrong..

and most of all, there is a shortage of axle(diff) and gearboxes these days..


hopefully this answers your questions, just a word of caution, obtain JPJ first fro approval..they change policy everytime...

i have received many PM's from forumers asking about this conversion.. after that nothing...maybe by you posting this, many others may find answers here by my post..

yup, unless u have a lot of time and money, conversions usually are a PITA.

but if u're stuck on it, then why don't u just turbocharge the M20 engine? its a whole lot simpler compared to a full transplant, plus no hassels with JPJ. u dun need much stuff modified, and u can just get a piggyback to handle the fueling/ignition issues.

but if u go standalone ecu, u'll be able to extract good power, enough to whack most other cars on the road

just BOOST IT!!

Zoggee,i'll def enrol once i'm done with uni in dec,now no time and faster car,well,i dont want a car with too high maintenance. A e30 with a m50 engine will be just nice. if go up to e34 etc pain oh, i still student

if i sell my car also must see got buyer for it or not,i spent 28k in June spent 6k doing it up. Min i'm gonna sell also 30-something.so there's a lot of variables la.anyway let me know felix about the other m50's for sale.

Jag,when my car was on stock engine...I can donuts non stop.Outrun my brother 328i auto and going to track without any worries.

Now...*sigh*
Total overhaul,PnP,cam,injectors,MAF and piggy back with 192horses and 253NM @3800( better then then stock M50) for what???
