Hi, I need advice on which model E46 to buy? Cos out thr many are saying it is not easy to maintain a BM. Is it true? It is that exp to drive one? Currently im driving a Perdana Turbo which i feel does not cost that much to maintain it. So will it be the same? I was considering E46 325 model as people say the one with alots of problem is 318. How far is all this true? Can anyone please help me. I am confused. Even thought if its going to be very troublesome, than its better to go for Forte Coup. Suggestions please. Thank you so much :)

Hehe..i've been in your situation before..previously i also owned perdana twin turbo.. After 4 years serve me, i decided to get e46 also.. Yup, its true v6tt(6a12) not quite much for maintenance (i believe yours 4G63).. N finally i get myself 330ci.. So far, for maintenance wise not so different to previous car.. Just for parts slightly high.. U will do anything if u love e46..hehe

Thanks :)

Hi Bro, Thanks for the advice. Im also driving 6A12(TT) bro...Preety reliable engine...So im taking ur advice bro...will go around and luk for a gud E46 than...im searching for 325I or CI bro...let me knw if u hv any contact too...Cheers :)

Go for E46/325i with the M54 engine. The M54 engine is robust and can take occasional abuse.

If you want torque, go for 328i or 330i.

What's important is finding a clean and well maintained example preferably from an enthusiast owner..saves you a lot of headache. You're buying into a relatively old car and if the previous owner did not maintain it well, a few things will be due for maintenance just as you buy into it.

You will love your car, and you will spend money to make it as perfect as your pocket allows. At the end of the day..it will be worth it. 325/328/330, can't go wrong if you can afford the road tax.

Thanks to jarance and 2wenty6. yes made up ma mind to go for 325ci. Have started to search for a gud piece. Hope to find soon. Heard there any some around cheras used car dealers. Need to drive down this weekend. Or worst scenario will go for 325i CKD...Lets see how it goes...Anywat thanks alota guys. And do advice me if there is anything i need to knw before getting this machine. ;)

As Jarance said 325 using M54 engine. Got alot of half cut spare part for M54 engine. e46 got alot of problem because that 1 is not M54 or M52 engine. M54 engine very petrol save too. I am using e39 M52TU is very petrol save. Dont forget after you buy the e46 and need to clone your e46 key then pls pm me. I am doing the clone key for BMW car below year 2005.

do check the key and spare key...
pls ensure the key can manually unlock door & booth...
best is read thru the forum on e46 threaad and u'll gain lot of answer there...

and go for 325 or above, u wont regret....:top:

thread hijack a bit...what's the market price right now for 2002 or 2003 E46 325i? Assumption is the car in good condition.

Just like buying any car, have a trusted mechanic go through it thoroughly before signing the papers. It is also good to know what's wrong with the car and perhaps that will affect the selling price in your favor. I'm not super familiar with the e46 chassis or common problems, but I'm sure you can get a recommendation from forumers for a reputable mechanic familiar with the e46.

BMW ownership might not be very pleasant if you buy into one with a truckload of problems - especially so if you are the kinda meticulous owner that wanna address every single problem. Take your time to look for a good example. Speaking from experience
