Went to look at a BMW 645 (recond) last week, had a test drive and everything seemed ok. Car was advertised as a 2005 BMW 645i, with less than 20,000 miles mileage. So assuming everything was ok i left a depositDid some research and found out that the car was actually a 2004 car, salesman denied said cannot be cannot be.Then after some more research, I found that on 29/08/2007, 2 years ago the car already had 61,000 miles on it, which is around 100,000km mileage. When I looked at the car it said less than 20,000 mileage. Confronted salesman again he said ya ya its actually a 2004 car and didnt dispute the mileage. Now 2 years later who knows what the mileage isI dont wanna name the shop I would like to give the salesman the benefit of the doubt that he really didnt know, even tho this may not be the case. So everytime u buy a BMW or any car, just make sure u do proper research and get verified service history on the car.Cheers

Sure. They told me it was a UK car so I knew where to start.

Get the VIN No of the car (Chassis No) and If you can get the cars plate number as well when it was in the UK. you can do a HPI Check (pay a little money) but worth it. www.hpicheck.com

If you only have the VIN Number you can either phone BMW UK with it who were unhelpful or do what I did and got a forum member in the UK to check it out for me. I did it on the pistonheads Forum and member PartsGuru helped me

http://www.pistonheads.com/xforums/...anyone able to check a BMW's service history?

It showed this

So as u can see on 29/08/2007 it had its last service at SP Cars with a mileage of 61,783 miles, around 100,000 km. That was 2 years ago.

When I saw the car it said less than 20,000 mileage

British cars mileage are normally very high and the salt spray during winter in Northern Britain will cause the under carriage to rust. Many grey import E39 from UK suffer from this rust problem on their firewall, must jack up the car to inspect.

sometimes it would be better to bring along a foreman and use the proper diagnostic tool to verify the actual millage as when the used car dealer reset's the millage , the original millage would still pop out via the diagnostic tool ....

happen to a fellow friend of mine ...bought a recond car and was shown a low millage , and upon using it for almost a year now and when he plug in the diagnostic sofware , the millage seem to be showing at a higher side almost 60K difference ..

so if can afford to buy an expensive car , would be better to pay a little more to the foreman bring along the diagnostic tool check on right on the sport ....what is rm 500 compared to a car which price tag is over the 100K mark ...

Where would you get the foreman from? BMW Malaysia?

Yeah afaik the mileage is also stored in the LCM and u can check there as well.

I think this is a common occurence just many people dont know. Makes sense they will buy thecheapest highest mileage cars from the UK and touch them up and sell them here for a huge profit.

A "leggy" 645 like the one I looked at will prob have cost around 12-14,000 pound Sterling in the UK(RM75-80k). They are selling for well over RM300k here so even after tax profit is still quite high I think

looks like UK also have its carfax like US.anyone who are business minded can start "Carfax" for Malaysia.

i agreed.:top:..even 1-2k to check for proper document/detail is worth it...becoz the repairing cost might be more.

The VIN Decoder doesnt work for me. Keep getting this message

"Sorry, We could not process your request.

FYI, if you have the VIN # you can actually call up your local BMW agent and ask them to run the VIN for you. They will do it. VIN # reveals everything about your car such as where it was made (which factory), the colour of the car, number of doors, type of engine, body type, what type of interior, sunroof... and what not.

If you want to run the VIN, there is a guy in Bimmerforums is doing it still go to this thread and send him your VIN.

Well BMW UK is Useless at this. Completely useless.

I asked them for the information, and they said I have o call the premium rate line which costs GBP1 per minute. Then they say the line cannot be called from overseas. So I cannot call the line.

I tell them I am willing to pay the equivalent cost of calling the number for the information, and they said NO, just have to call the number. You are overseas they say? Sorry u just have to call the number (which cannot be called from overseas)
