Exactly, which is why I am quite surprised. The worst thing for me is that the estimates which were earlier at 4k went up to 5k and then 6k. After the work was completed, I asked for the price a few times but was told that he hadn't calculated the total yet. On the final day when I went to collect the car, I called up to ask before going over and wanted to ask the total bill and again, he told me dont know yet.

1 hour later, I get a shock when he gives me a bill of 8k with ridiculous items like towing charge and supply of petrol? Anyway, lesson learnt. Although the works so far seem to be acceptable, the cutthroat way of doing things are definitely not what I am looking for when sending my car to a workshop...

I still remember my first experience with M-Performance, before proceeding with any works, they always call to tell me what needs to be replaced, the options I have, etc. and only proceed after I confirm that the price is acceptable.

Can u tell me your engine is N42B18 or N42B20 ? Which is the manufacturing year ?
Is it ur engine oil pump is out then causing the camshaft out ?

It's an N42B20, 2003 manufacture

Full set engine of N42B20 confirmed price is RM5500. So next time dont go to Raymond Auto Works for this kind of works.

For that repair bill....i can transplant new engine di......with change...well.lesson learn..,i dhould b good for few more years

Sigh, what to do? Wrong timing for my car to break down. It broke down 1 day after my first time servicing at Raymond's. Thought it would be something small and decided to send back there to identify the problem. That was on Friday, right before the CNY weekend break. Unfortunately, when I heard that it was a broken camshaft, I was told that the camshaft would only cost 1k+ and there would be some extra costs here and there.

Then the nightmare begins when it seems that everything else also needs to be changed from the head , and then the oil pump, mountings etc. 1 day ago when I first sent my car in to check the car's vibrations and loud engine noise, I was told that it was normal and all that was needed was an engine flush and engine oil change.. which balooned to a 2k+ bill as more things were identified as needful of change.

But anyway, the car seems ok for now and I certainly hope it stays that way. A good lesson learnt for me and I definitely know where I am going to send my car, or where not to in future.

It will never ends, trust me..

Hi Eujinee, yes I am. Do let me know if you would like to get anything.. haha.

Anyway, was at the shop at Monday. Further damage done was that the head was badly damaged as well. Currently, replacing the complete engine head with a halfcut item. Both cams are therefore going to be replaced together. At the same time, gonna do a complete top overhaul. I have not come to understand how this has happened though. It seems that the timing chain is still in good condition.

Kinda dissapointed with the car actually. Before purchase, it seemed to be in a very good condition with just some minor leaks here. However, from the first day of getting the car, it seems like problems have been coming up endlessly. In fact, I did have the car inspected at a BMW specialist before the purchase. Would have spent somewhere in the region of 12-13k to fix it within 2 months of owning it... Hopefully, this round would solve everything. haha

dont worry man, it should be all good now. Look after it and make sure you keep an eye on things like oil leaks and any strange noises at startup etc. Fix anything that crops up soon and you should be ok. These are good cars but we need to remember, unlike Japanese or other asian makes, they are a bit over engineered so not very tolerant when things go bad. Main thing is to keep it from going bad :)

Best of luck and wishing you many years of safe and trouble free driving in your UDM :D
