Just about 5 month of ownership of my E46 318i, problem have start occurring..been doing intensive reading in this forum and trying to find the cure for every problem that surface. it is hard to rectify all this problem at once when money is the main subject. been hearing from all that driving a BMW is pure pleasure, but for me its the other way round..pure "sakit kepala" that the best term to describe my experience..its a sure "panas telinga" when hearing people around me start saying word like..."can dah cakap jgn pki BMW, xnak dengar...tengok skang susah nak bela..." .Sure HOT HOT HOT! :mad:when hearing word like this..even my brother in law once told me to sold my UDM and take a vios..damn!fell like nak tenyeh ja kepala lutut dia...ok, enough with the intro..here r my question: 1)what is the main cause of steering shaking?what is the possible culprit for this problem...so far i've change lower arm (RH), tierod (LH), bering (LH), bushing (FR), sport spring...could it be stearing rack?:wink:2) notice bunyi bising from my rear right tyre when cruising on highway..is'it because of blod tyre?3)my car start showing symptom of susah nak start..bunyi and power ada tapi xmau hidup..4)aircond not cold and produce masam smell..notice symptom of water drip under the car, centre vent cooler the side vent, aircond blower suddenly die off while driving and screeching sound when starting the car...as per advice in this forum, found out problem myb originated from cooling coil...status: least priority and tahan dulu..(cross finger):bawling:5)lost of engine oil and water....topup water like every week...6)when putting paddle to the floor, notice low respond from the engine and sound like bubble pop (buih) in the engine compartment..dont know if it normal with BMW car...:stupid:7) low RPM when AC is off in stand still position while in D gear..car start to shake and RPM drop8)my rims ACS type 3 dent already due to previous owner fault.all listed are my problem to solve...just thinking about it and the cost of repair me my knee lembek and jantung stop to beat..can sifus here help me priorities which to repair first mybe with a economic (cheap:wink:) solution...or mybe i should just follow my brother in law suggestion to just sell this car and drive a more hassle free vios?:listen:Insan Keresahan....

Hi mielo...from my experience,

1. broken longshaft mounting / bald rear tyres /bent rims could be the culprit. I had this prob, vibrating at 85-100kph.. solved by changing the bald rear tyres, not the front as it is a rear-wheel drive car.

2. wheel bearings or uneven worn out tyre, have to inspect by jacking up the car and rotating the tyres. The slight vibration felt shows the bearing prob.

3. get it diagnosed, if sensors failing, it should be stored in the memory...

hope this helps mielo...i know how u feel, but yr issues are too many lah...step by step bro...sabar2, maybe solve the engine issues first, e.g item 3, 6 and 5 dulu...my 2 centoooos

hey mielo
JFT is correct...go solve engine issues first.. Radiator maybe leaking, if not the reservoir
Engine oil? Thats dangerous. Have oil mixed with water? U need to check that quick bro...

same goes to me mate, one by one problem come and it was like 2 mnths before my wedding date..until 2 days before my date.still come out a new problem.but i stick to my UDM eventhough a lot of people keep telling me to let it go,even my wife.hehehe.

i sort one after another the problem, start with a major one.maybe the engine part?

my car:start from gearbox problem till cylinder-lock(driver side) u name it,now only two major prob need to be repair.
1.oil seal valve.
2.acond service.

wish me luck!
driving ur own UDM can be priceless experience if u spent most of the time n money caring for it(as long as u can afford it)

that is why the best golden rule to follow is : have an extra 10K for a better sleep and get all those parts replace before even you hit the pedal ...more worse if buying a car from a used car dealer ...lotsa hidden gremlins ...

sorry to hear about that .... the direct owner should be able to advise you as he would have all the receipts kept and also the contact of the workshop that had been doing the job ....didn't you get all the details etc etc ....

checked..no water mixed with oil..my bro once told it mybe coz by the gasket is not tight enough...but havent go for a check yet..

Your car is a M43 so engine parts replacement is not that expensive. Make sure what you changed will solved your problems. You don't want to change this change that and end up with the problems still persist. For your air cond prob you can try Bimmer Wong 0193181999.

Did you not hook the car up with diagnostic machine at the mechanic before you pay the previous owner? Dont just take
their word for it. Must get it checked by a trusted mechanic.

that's the problem...damage done and now im suffering from that mistake..that time no kawan using BMW so no one to advice me..have to done all by my self..

1)what is the main cause of steering shaking?what is the possible culprit for this problem...so far i've change lower arm (RH), tierod (LH), bering (LH), bushing (FR), sport spring...could it be stearing rack?
Could be due to your dented rims, faulty steering rack usually will cause a non power assistance feeling

2) notice bunyi bising from my rear right tyre when cruising on highway..is'it because of blod tyre?
could be your tyres botak

3)my car start showing symptom of susah nak start..bunyi and power ada tapi xmau hidup..
check your ingition sockets, its plastic and wears off easily

4)aircond not cold and produce masam smell..notice symptom of water drip under the car, centre vent cooler the side vent, aircond blower suddenly die off while driving and screeching sound when starting the car...as per advice in this forum, found out problem myb originated from cooling coil...status: least priority and tahan dulu..(cross finger)
due for an aircond service

5)lost of engine oil and water....topup water like every week...
do you see any oil spot in your garage? check your oil seals and gaskets

6)when putting paddle to the floor, notice low respond from the engine and sound like bubble pop (buih) in the engine compartment..dont know if it normal with BMW car...
sounds like AFM issue

7) low RPM when AC is off in stand still position while in D gear..car start to shake and RPM drop
sounds like AFM issue too

8)my rims ACS type 3 dent already due to previous owner fault.

For item 1, u r refering to front or rear dented rim hat my cause this problem?

item 5, no spot detected

what is AFM??

thank gor the help..

bro mielo, sometimes there are hairlines crack that only visible when you look carefully once u take out the radiator.happend to me until one day all water gone. lucky im inspecting my car before begin any journey or else...

That is true. dealer or direct also got risk. so for me 4 main criterias

i) good chassis with no accident
ii) clean and nice interior
iii) clean and smooth engine
iv) diagnose no fault

all others can be changed relatively easy after getting the car. get it cheap and save the money for preventive maintenance.

hmmm...did not see any visible crack on my spare tank and my radiator just changed new. another question, what contribute to noise in cabin?is it because of the the type of tyre? does dented rim contribute to the noise??

thanks in advance

Check your wheel bearings ( the sound is more visible at higher speed), might also uneven tyre wear..Dented rims? no lah i think...
