Hi guys,

I'm new ot the M world as I have recently purchased my e92 M3. If any of you could be so kind and clarify whether Castrol TWS 10W-60 is the same as Castrol Edge 10W-60. I have just bought 2 x 4 liter bottles of the latter for RM195 Each from Castrol Malaysia. On the bottle it says that it is specially made for BMW M cars. I am just about to change out all the oils on my car and before I chuck in the oil I bought, I thought it would be better to clarify with all the wise forumers here. Your help is much appreciated.

The Edge 10W-60 is the newer version but both can be used...

Having said that i wonder what's the difference in formulation between TWS and Castrol Edge?

The problem is the difference in branding and formulation of Castrol Edge worldwide. Googling will show you that in some markets Castrol Edge is said to be exactly the same oil as TWS. For example in US they just released 'Castrol Edge Professional TWS' which is said to be the same oil in a different bottle. Whether the formulation for the US market Castrol Edge and our Malaysian 'Castrol Edge with Titanium Fluid Strength' is the same has yet to be determined.

For me, I would go with what you feel comfortable using. If you think Castrol Edge at 30% lower price is a good enough (or equal) alternative theres no harm trying. For me, I will stick with what BMW recommends until it can be proven that formulation of both oils are exactly the same.

PS: My brother's (e34_lover) supplier has kindly waived the minimum order quantity at the same price of RM70.00 per 1L bottle so I will be closing the group buy. Anyone still interested in buying TWS at that price can PM me directly!
