Hi guys,I misplaced my passport recently. I'm aware of the steps to take which is:1) Make police report2) Get some forms from immigration3) Fill forms, and witnessed by commissioner of oaths4) Submit forms, go for interview and get a replacement passportAm not too sure about step no 4. Anyone got their lost passport replaced recently? Do I get a full replacement passport or a temporary one? Thanks in advance!

If i'm not mistaken there's a grace period before they'll issue the new passport to u. the best is lodge the police report now and straight go to immigration for the new application. that'll be easy for u to plan ur holiday later

It is not a matter of whether you get a replacement passport, it is a matter of whether you are cleared of any wrong doings & then issued a new one, from what I know it could take a couple of months until you get a reply. Go file a police report asap and walk in one of the immigration offices.

Your point 4.3 - Get a replacement passport, is not quite accurate.

You have to convince them of your need for one and intended holiday in the future is not on their list. Even with me working with an Airline, it took a lot to convince them of my needt for them to finally issue me with one. I lost mine when my briefcase was stolen. Approval can only be given by their HQ.

Yes there is a grace period and even if they issue you with one, they will issue you with one for a short period only.

Good luck.

P.S. There is a step 1.2 - Get a copy of the police report.

Hi all,

Thanks for the kind replies. I think I'm getting my hopes up too high reading this article from the Star:

Home Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Mahmood Adam said Malaysians who lost their passport or MyKad could directly apply for a replacement.

The move, effective March 1, is to cut down red tape and costs.

“The agencies will make a record of the loss and provide the replacement document on the same day.

yeh these days no need to make police report etc etc ...just bring yourself there ..fill up the forms , snap a handsome picture and your passport will be ready in 5 working days ...during the pick up you'll need to hear a little lecture there ...

The replacement is rather fast now...I lost my passport when I was holidaying in Australia, went to the embassy in Canberra and got a return permit. Came back, went to immigration office and got my replacement within 3 weeks.

They all do not fine you for loss passport.... But the replacement passport is valid for only 2 years...... But same price

It all depends on their internal investigations. Not so cut & dried. Had a friend who was robbed in Istanbul..nicely beaten up,hotel room ransacked, documents gone..was issued an emergency travel document to return, unfortunately was working for airline..sat on ground for about 6 months waiting for replacement.

Sometimes our politicians make statements but the department concerned also found out from the press of the same statement...ha ha ha..

But I suppose the system has changed somewhat judging from some of the replies..good luck to get your replacement soon!!

Cheers :)
