fire, maybe daan is trying to say that you shouldn't drive your bmw fast, might increase its wear & tear & cause premature breakdown.

As long as BMW says its sexy & superb handling, you should take their word for it & not find out for yourself.

And if it doesn't preform to your expectations, you're either ignorant to what you want & what you have.

No comments dude..I am just enjoying driving kind of dude ..different car communicate differenly.. :D :eek:k:

I was just kidding lah. BTW, since we are talking about car, i need to buy a cheap car to get around KL, what do you guys think i should get?

I'm thinking of AR 146 or E36 328 but it would cost double of the AR.

Daan, on my children and descendant's lives, please don't get the 146. Please wipe it off your thoughts and never consider it again! It's a disaster on wheels. There are a lot of other great alfa romeos out there but the 146 is a serious blip in the otherwise accomplished history of that marque. For more details, please refer to a thread on 156 vs. E36 328i or something like that which was quite active about 6 months to a year ago.

My comment: (Dont tembak)

I think what had been left thru out these years should not be revised.

Meaning: The tax structure should remain the same.

Advantage: Yes, you get cheaper cars.

My point: Do you happy when the New RM 150,000 E90 you are buying will only sell for a RM 20,000.00 only after a few years usage or you scrap your newly bought Waja without even getting a sen after only 5 years usage as in some developed countries?

Just be grateful you still can sell your E30, E34 and E36 for quite a price rather than scrap it.

Conclusion: I think a lot of forummer here will be unhappy of the tax change (eg: you buy E60 or E90 or eventhe 1 series, one year usage, you lost a lot)

only my 2 pence. TQ
Off topic,

I think most people living overseas especially in the states are not complaining about the rapid car price depreciation. Anyway the depreciation rate is not as bad as you put it. More like an exaggeration.

You sell cheap, you buy cheap. And first time car buyers benefit the most, now e36 328 is below 50k in most cases, e39s are generally below 100k (98 models) and so forth. More people can afford safer cars, and have more $$$ to spend on other things. It only augurs well for the people.

In M'sia car prices are distorted and unreal. Come 2010, we may see further reduction if the government keep to its commitment under WTO agreements.

Unreal is an understatement

That is on BIG frikin IF.....
since they already postponed their "agreement" twice!

After all who is gonna cover Proton's ass if the gov gives in to WTO?
If all the import duties were wiped out tomorrow, Proton would go under the next day

A quick check will reveal that a new Chervolet Aveo cost between 9-11K USD in the states, whereas you have to fork out RM70-80K for that POS here. Earning 3K per month in the States is very easy. I dun think I mind scrapping my 9K car after 2-3 years of ownership (coz I can pay it off in 6 months time) instead of slogging to pay monthly instalments on a car for 5 years, (which is about time it should be scrapped) but when I sell it for 30K I cannot buy another new car. But of course we have not bring out the other side of the coin, which is labour cost is high in the States. That's why ppl who are mechanical savy or interested to learn how to fix their cars can get some really good bargain, as used cars are dirt cheap. Nobody wants to pay another person to repair them. It will cost more than a new car.

That is why most of the forum there are technically oriented unlike the many forums in Asian countries (there are exceptions tho) which are mostly full of hot airs. It augurs well for their population too as many high skol/college kids get to picks up real life mechanical skills repairing and modding cars themselves. Of course they can work on motorcycles, planes, guns and boats whatever their interest lies.

Don't even talk about a 9k car la...
For example, someone in KL earning 2.5k a month...should be able to buy a 50k Proton. Pays it off in 5 years.

If that same person were earning 30k a year in US, it would be quite easy to buy an E90 325i for 32k.

Sad isn't it...

Right......that why I dun believe in mass produced cars elevated to the status of
high end marque. We are just being ripped off. Yeah the Camry cost only 20K in the states and its the defacto FAMILY car there. Difinitely not an executive sedan!!! We are fooling ourselves again. Oh ya....recalls are as common as roaches in a dustbin. You just cannot sell an unreliable car in the states. The consumer group will bury the car alive.

This discussion, while interesting, has gone from the title of the thread, which was based on a member's grouse w bmw quality, to comparing the prices of cars in different countries...

Will the arm-chair automobile-pricing-economists kindly start another thread, thank you.

earning 30k a month in the US might not be so easy to buy a 32k bimmer.

you havent factored in lots of others things.. high taxes.. higher cost of living...etc. you wont see many people earning 30k a month driving a 32k bimmer. thats for sure.
