Yes 1+2=3... agreed with your statement.

As i have mentioned earlier, Driving skills can be taught. what's important is to have the charisma and the personality to be a BMW instructor.

good luck to all applicant!

Is this performance driving course offered to the public really by BMW Malaysia?? If it is why is there a need to recruit in-experience instructors to perform a driving course to the public?

I know driving skills can be taught but it got to be mastered and in a short time frame of a couple of months how is the instructor competent enough? I don't know how i can put my words better but its like, a good footballer is not necessary a good coach and like wise, a good coach is not necessary a good footballer.

I'm not trying flame or anything but it makes me wonder why recruit this way as there are indeed many competent professional driving and defensive driving instructors in malaysia which i'm sure could have offered their services to BMW MAlaysia to provide a better training back to the public.

I know of a few good instructors as i've been to some defensive driving courses and advanced driving course locally. I'm sure these instructors are defenitely not aware of this recruit.

Just my 2cents only..

if you guys who are interested have seen the calendar, and can commit to those dates, and are not affiliated with any other automobile manufacturer, go for it. If you do get selected, its definitely an opportunity of a lifetime. you stand to lose nothing.

There will definitely be many experienced racing drivers..etc. who will go for this selection, but one thing is for sure, they're not just looking for outright skill, but as kl2dc mentioned, personality counts as well.. They're basically looking for the whole package, not just a good driver, but someone who can represent and communicate what the brand stands for.

But do remember, being an instructor isn't all about fun.. sure, you'll get lots of fun as well, but your main job is to teach, and indirectly "sell" the brand.

I like Pork..I love to thrashed BMW in a way...I c1p3K all the time. I got a lot of C1p3K typical china man who is rich and still uncertain abt purchasing BMW as their car...cos BMW dun entertain those Chinaman who can't speak fluent Ingerlish. We always tok abt BMWs,went Porking too.....beside bmw we tok sumthing else hamsap. Sumtime I drive them crazy too...

is that the charisma they are looking at ah??? Tempting la...:D

haha...ciao.:D

Why? How?

Simple...

1) Publicity and Brand Exposure. By holding a widely publicised national recruitment drive, BMW Malaysia is enjoying a lot of valuable exposure, goodwill, etc etc you know the drill. At the end of the day its about selling the brand. Every facet of the campaign and program is about selling the marque (easy sell anyhow). In fact, if I were in charge of marketing, I'd escalate this into a media circus by doing a reality show on network television. That'd be awesome.

2) They don't want a pissing contest. If you look at the program review and the video links I posted, the curriculum covers the basics like emergency lane changes, performance braking, skidpad etc etc. Its not about who can go around the track faster or drifiting theatrics etc etc. Its about homogeinity of instruction. Its about flattering the paying guests. Its about making the potential clients feel good and enjoy themselves. Its about, you guessed it, selling the marque brand.

Now I am sure you know the adage that you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Everyone knows that experienced racers, track experts are rather set in their own ways. If BMW recruits experts it would be hard to wipe the slate clean, to maintain consistency. Also experienced racers etc would demand more compensation etc etc

Now in Spartanburg the instructors are experienced racers who have been in various BMW racing programs etc. Why Spartanburg and not KL? Well, Spartanburg offers a wider range of driving programs including the ///M schools and Advanced ///M school. Its also cornerstone to the Performance Ctr Delivery program. They also do annual roadshow driving programs and I assume some R&D work for the locally bred Z4s and X5s.

Those successful will have to commit to a minimum of 10 days out of the total training sessions held through out the year and they pay RM1000 per day to the instructors... not bad...

good to know they will remunerate the instructors but money shall be the LAST motivator for anyone doing this.

guys,
If we have to hire race drivers to be coaches, I think that would send out the wrong message that ;

1) A BMW needs that kinda skill to handle to enjoy the car
2) This is a course where speeding is encouraged
3) BMW wants to train u as a racing driver...

I have to agree mostly with KL2DC that like it or not, this is a BRANDING EXERCISE, IMAGE raising - call it what you like but its MARKETING 101 pure n simple.

In the meantime, a few lucky fellow driver enthusiasts will get an exposure of the german manner of screening, training, expectation but please note they expect you to be responsible, brand conscious all times as well. Well, part of the job will be also to mingle with like minded drivers who happen to be fee paying guests......

Anyone who thinks this is all pure fun will be disappointed but then again, fun is subjective word rite? I think a big part of instructor qualification is being able to communicate and express oneself properly - behind the wheel and outside.....and some "racing" drivers command of flowery language is ...ahem!

Have fun while on duty! :)

When BMW designs a car, everyone knows that it can go very fast. But, not many people know what the car is designed for and what the car can do - especially during unexpected situations. I would say most of the time most UDM drivers only utilize 20% of the car's capability. The remaining 80% can only be experienced at the driver training centre. A driver training at Nurburgring with M5 ring taxi can cost up to 4000 Euros inclusive of accomodation. In New Zealand, the cost is approximately NZD1000 using an M3. In Malaysia if the price of the training is RM1000 or less I guess it is dirt cheap. Everyone should go for it before they start to increase the price.

Well said... I know BMW is doing a great job in marketing and brand awareness and loyalty, hence I'm also convinced in owning and driving one of these UDM. :D

It just ponders me why BMW wanted to recruit instructors this way unlike Subaru Singapore where they also defensive and advance driving courses for their Subaru customers but instead of them trying to source or train instructors, they employed a local company to conduct and run the program but according to Subaru specifications. Maybe it is just how BMW attract and stir attention towards BMW for more branding??

Actually, i'm quite interested in submiting an application to see if i would ever be shorlisted for the interview and assestment. But a ten day training on March really worry me as i don't know if i could really take so many days of work for the training.
