Hie guys,Am currently shopping around for a 528i and came across this one. It's a '97 model with bodykit, rims, M-Sport steering. From the pics it looks like it would need some work to get in top condition.

Going to see this tomorrow during lunch and was wondering if anyone has any information about this car. Any information would be much appreciated.Am a NOOB to BMW ownership but i've previously owned a Alfa 155 which was as temperamental as alot of girls i know... and don't want to get a new ride which will make my mechanic my best friend. ;)Looking forward to any replies. Thanks guys.Cheers.

never seen any OM members here that own that car ....

try ravikumar's e39 ...if not mistaken is also a 528 ..

Am seeing his tonight. But am still shopping around for the best bang for my buck.

Was curious to the cars history as it was listed by 2 separate dealers within a span of 2 months between listings. Not sure if dealers move cars around if they are unable to sell at their shop and wanted to know whether it would be worthwhile to look at.

Don't mind dumping in some cash to get the car running right as long as its not an electrical fault which can at times be pretty nasty business.

leaky engine and gearbox gaskets, power steering hoses, radiator, worn out chassis bushes & shocks can easily set you back more than 20k. get a mechanic to appraise all necessary repais before you commit to a purchase price.

either way you will be spending close to 20K if you want her to be tip top, especially buying from a dealer!

gd luck...

Am quite aware on potential costs of ownership and getting the car up to standards on reliability.
Have been lurking on this forum for quite sometime now. ;)

kayzhen911: am aware its not an M-Sport just a lookalike. A real M-Sport would be nice. :)

deep3102: looking at total expenditure of about 60k - 65k inclusive of what ever i need to get done right.

If ur looking for good condition E39 everything done wt mods, ICE & engine rebuild.
Lots of tender, loving & car u may consider my E39 528 CBU UK spec. Price is not cheap but value for money overall coz I spent more than 70k in my 3 years plus ownership.:listen:

Thanks for the offer... but i want to keep expenditure as low as possible.
And half the fun is getting a car all done up and knowing exactly what's been done.

Saw the car today, looks good from the outside but the interior is really worn out.
Needs plenty of elbow grease, leather toner and polish. Engine idling is not as smooth as it should ideally be but power delivery feels solid enough for an engine its age.

Gearbox drives alright, no shuddering etc... electronically looks sound. Tried turning most of the electronics on. Meter does not have any dead pixels which makes me think the meter has been replaced recently and is not the cars original.

Am not set on this unit and am still weighing my options. Will see how it goes.

Haha...maybe you haven't read enough on this forum..you can know EXACTLY whats been done with initialM's car...even engine is washed once a month...mandi buih somemore.

His thread in Showroom is basically his car diary...you can know pretty much everything from the moment he got that car until today. Every bolt changed, every gasket everything is documented. Spend a night reading his thread and you'll know what I'm talking about. Hell I think its the most delicately maintained E39 around.

Start reading from here (you DO need to set aside one full night to go through all of it!)

initialM...good or not my promo? hehe..when you buy your new house can invite me around la...haha

Have actually read it from beginning to end even before i made a decision to get a E39.
And its for that reason that i am not gonna insult the efforts he has put into his car by offering something less than the value desired.

Like everyone i have to work within a budget, more or less. And in my mind i have an idea of what i want my future car to be. So i'm actually looking for a car that i can work on and restore.

I've got a couple of friends who are long time BMW owners and will be pointing me in the right direction for parts, etc... they're on this forum too but i don't think they post often.

U made the wise decision in choosing E39. To date not many normal cars is up to its class. Maybe u can tell us what is yr budget on the car & what spec u looking at? Then what is yr budget & plan once u got the car. Being experience of restoring 3 BMW models even the good condition one really makes me & my saving exhausted as I'm quite fussy in terms of my car. Since my E46 selling off soon, I mite sell my E39 if the price is reasonable as my initial plan was to hv 3, 5 & 7 series. Since new commitment recently I've change my plan of having 2 cars only & hoping to get a hold of ///M car is possible being a BMW hardcore. Even the E90 325 Msport is not to my liking compare to my E39 (no offense to E90 owner). We all live within our means.:top:
