Yup in the past I have tried applying 2-3 layers of sealant on top of wax. BUT I noticed that it's a real pain to buff off the 2nd layer. So instead now I just wax more often instead of every 6 mths I do it every 2 mths. Time and energy wise it's easier to just wax more often than trying to "protect" your wax.

I apply wax as a final layer on top of sealant, not the other way round.

Yeah, that's my approach as well. Besides, our cars are fairly new, so is there a need to do more than waxing? :smokin:
 
Do you guys notice any real difference (not physiological) when you layer wax on top of sealant? and do you notice any real difference when you are applying additional layers of wax/sealant?

i have tried both.

there is a difference when you layer a wax over a sealant as sealants usually don't give any extra depth compared with waxes.

from my own experience i only saw a difference when applying 3 layers of wax. anything more than that did not give any visible difference to me.
 
Have you tried comparing it side by side.... Is there really a big difference? Eg something like this....

Area 1 : Untreated
Area 2 : M83//M80//M82
Area 3 : M83//M80//M82//M21

I used to do layering last time and it found that it only gives very very little difference. From far it looks the same. :)
 
Agree, very little difference in terms of look. So I have given up on layering. Just wax and GOooooo

to the threadstarter : when you say 300-400 polishing job by non-detailing specialist, it is just that - POLISHING. It is not detailing, detailing entails a much more finer art and brings a much more better result such a a flawless Show Car finish. To give you an idea of what a show car finish is like, my car:-

Wow amazing. The painful part will be to maintain that show car shine on a daily driver!

Its too painful for me to detail to a show car shine and maintain it. In KL weather, it takes only a week before you'd have to do it all over again LOL.

Here's my SG E90 taken this morning. It hasn't been washed for 2 days, but has been chilling out in the basement car park. Been driving the wifey's Jazz hehe.

E46F, that's why despite me having a company car for daily work purposes, my mileage is only slightly behind yours! I live in a condo too and find that the car gets dusty even when left in the covered car park. The dust settles to form a layer of black, invisible to the naked eye but quite apparent when you feel your car and see your hands thereafter. I dunno if that's your experience as well.
 
Inspired by Musclehead's pics... I took some this morning after giving the car a nice wash..

My current combination of stuff I use on the car gives the car a softer gloss instead of a hard reflective look. I still cant decide what kinda shine I prefer.... The softer deeper gloss makes the car a little darker, while the harder reflective look brings out more of the sparkles of the paint.

I know this may sound dumb, but is "autoglym" any good ?

Package includes wash+polish+wax+basic interior detailing. For full interior detailing is additional RM 130-00.
Been Quoted RM 260-00 to get it done in PJ (Old town)

Your advice is much appreciated.

P.s. I saw KIT "carnuba" wax, but been told that im better off getting turtle wax w/o carnuba for DYI. Comments pls.
 
Bro, its old skool, but I think its pretty decent. Most importantly is if the shop's reputation for their work.

Have u tried getting quotes from other recommendations from members like autodetailer or swissol?

For DIY, start with claying. MG quik clay kit is pretty easy and brainless to use (hence I like it) but it cost more to say other clay bars. Generally I do not like harsh surface prepping like wet sanding or more abbrasive cleaner products, so i just stick to claying which is very safe for the clear coat. If condition of the surface is bad, you may have to do a few rounds of claying to get the surface silky smooth.

Then do the other bits on top. Depending on the condition of your paint, you may want to polish before waxing and seal. Else clay + wax + sealant is good enuff. Then a routine program to keep it looking good heh.

For DIY, I use MG clay too, but I combine that occasionally with their clear coat scrub/cleaner which helps alot as well. After that follow with wax/sealant.

IIRC, AutoDetailer charges about 1k+ for the full-on package.

RM1K+?!! Now, that's what I call Hypercoat Shock!!
