Quite a lot of variants if including the grey imports.

Local models
pre-facelift : 318i (1.9), 328i then replaced by 325i
Facelifted: 318i (2.0 valvetronic), 325i, 330i(CBU)

Grey imports.. a lot more variants.. 320i 6 pot 2.0, also got 2.2, 323i (2.5) etc etc...

bro, your question is very wide.ie :

1. type
2. price
3. reliability
4. etc

would suggest what is in your mind so that the bros here can advise you on the specifics

1. type : E46 3 series 4dr (any model but need to be 2.0)
2. price : $90k can get ?
3. reliability : must be without problem of course. willing to wait and hunt for a good condition unit.
4. prefer Local Auto Bavaria unit with service record.

Thanks for all the bros here that can keep a lookout for me :top:

318 1.9 is the prefacelift version, 318 2.0 is the facelifted version, the only e46 which comes with N42 engine, the valvetronic

bronx,

1. why does the model need to be a 2.0? why not a 2.8? or a 3.0?
2. have you tried doing some homework in motortrader.com? if no, please do some basic research and it will be easier to advise you the specifics
3. you have to be patient and careful in this area. make friends in the club and they can advise you
4. why local unit? why not re-cond unit?

suggest you take some timeout to get to know the rest of the guys in the club during the official monthly teh tarik sessions held every second friday of the month.

dun worry about asking the right or wrong questions. we are all here to share and help you make the right decision.

Very perplexing indeed.

bronx, if you have no knowledge on the car.. U could have at least google for some info...

here's something in Wikipedia on E46
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E46

cudn't find it..was looking at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_3_Series
anyway ii have wiki it n the link u provided have much detailed info :top:

go for 325i.. Good power, cheap roadtax.. the price also not so bad.. its use sensor for accelaration pedal.. very fast responds.. mine is 328i, power lebih kurang je.. but roadtax and insurance really killing... :stupid:

I've tested more than 20 E46 before I got mine 328 yr 2000. If u just want a BMW 318 will just enuff. From 318, 325 & 328 I've tested that in my budget range I chose 328 for below reason:-

1) stereng feel 328 is heavier & tighter. other feel like japs car quite lite. for me E36 better.

2) torque. although hp is more a less for 325 & 328 the latter has more torque. like a saying no replacment for displacement. (better if can get 330)

3) 328 is using accelarator cable while 325 is drive by wire. 328 u can instantly feel the power when u floor the pedal no need sprint booster.

Lastly its the best if u test drive the car as each car will feel different even if its a same model.
