Hello fellow sifus and forumers.I own a e46 318i ( not the n42 valvetronic ). Lately the engine starts to vibrate during idle. I went for a diagnose check up and it came out a fault that is " 141 Oxygen-sensor control, control limit ". Does this mean my oxygen sensor is 100% dead ? The mech had tried fixing all the vacuum hose to confirm no air leaksThe car stil can drive on mid and high speed, but the idling and reverse is killing me. It vibrates when idle or reverse which cause my RPM jump in range of 500 - 800. Any sifus out there who know about this fault code ? Thanks in advance !

Hi,

Sorry I am not a sifu but my advice to solve your problem are:

1.Rectify/replace ur fuel filter.

2.Ensure ur camshaft sensor really in good/healthy condition.

3.Ensure ur idling valve (behind the throttle body) is in good/healthy condition.

Good try!!

Hi,

I'm new in this thread. I own a 318i 2.0 Japan spec. I've problem with the "engine light" keep on came out, which told by a mechanic due to air-oil mixture problem which indicated by "blue smoke". How to overcome this problem, or is there any good mechanic out there?

hellgrace , below the intake manifold .. there is a part called oil separator..most of the time, this is is clogged due to leaking oil etc and thus making the vacuum not perfecto.. this effect can't be diagnosed with the GT1 because it is a mechanical thing.. and one of its symptoms is the oxygen sensor thingy.. tell this to your mechanic for him to check..

hope this helps.. no harm trying..

The mechanic no used standby O2 sensor meh? Plug it in and u know loo if its really the O2 faulty. If problem remain, then its not the O2 sensor loo.. :D

I don't know this but Non-valvetronic engine also have the oil separator ?

Bro,

Try cleaning the idle valve first, I have had the same problem.

Dear All

I faced the same problem today, when I started the engine (idle position) my steering wheel vibrate until you can feel it via the chair as well. Met the mechanic and was told my water level in expansion tank is low and advised me to change the plug as well, Is it correct? This water in expansion tank also another problem, always reduce even though true naked eyes I cant find any leaking. Radiator light also on and off while driving (something to do with sensor?) even I just top up my expansion tank. Pls, need your professional advise.

Can't think of any relation between engine vibration and low water level in expansion tank. But for E46, if your radiator does not leak then it could be leaking at your water level sensor (bottom of the expansion tank) or on the hoses. There are three main hoses and sometimes when the engine is cool you won't see any leak. It starts leaking once engine is at operating temperature (high Pressure & Temp). I kena once with the hose at the bottom (spilts to three branches), the part is RM330 and can just plug ang play, only needs a lot of effort to pull it out. If top hose, careful not to break the connection with the radiator. (this example is from N42 by the way)

Hi,

My advice is bring your UDM to Ultimate BMW at Batu Cave and ask them to perform leak test to ur cooling water system.I had done before and satisfied with the result and what are they done.Ask them to check ur water level/pressure sensor due to on off phenomenon.

Further more to ur idling problem,u are not stated what type of engine u own,if M43TU engine I also aggreed with others try to check your idling valve.
