e46 erratic idling ? help ...

hi guys , been having this problem, initially car will low idle during morning start 500 rpm ,( before it was normally 700-800rpm ) doesnt die off and im able send my kids to school without problems , later when car becomes stationary at traffic light or when slow down or manually shift to ( e46 manual 2001 ) low gear , the rpm suddenly goes up to 2000-2500rpm , and my foot is nowhere near the pedal.i've done full oil service today , checked the air / oil filter , no leaking hose , changed the idle ring twice already , and still the problem persist although a little bit less than before , barely 3-4 hrs after servicing .where should i be looking at ? whats wrong ?appreciate all the help and knowledge , thanks.

Check your idle control valve unit..ask reputable mechanic to check that out..just my 2 cents

Plug in diagnostiic machine, the error is probably already logged.

^ yeah what AidilJ said... i think the scanner can zero in to the problem ...

Unless its related to non ECU/DME that one need manual inspection...

hi all , thanks for the feedback . really appreciated it . Idling problem now solved after changing the air hose and TPS sensor , no problems with the replaced idle ring as well .Unfortunately , my waterhose spare tank e46 and the head water pipe was leaking everywhere after i had fixed the idling problem , and so had to replace that too. in all my 6 yrs of having this car , this year was more physically and financially challenging ,. .. wonder if anyone has got the same experience with having almost 11 yr old car. Mine has clocked a 108000 miles or so ( still using the same unit setting from uk ).
